ARCHDIOCESE OF DETROIT www.aod.org BOOK & GIFT SHOP Open weekends before & after Masses MOST HOLY TRINITY SUNDAY FROM THE PASTOR S DESK By Fr. Terry Kerner On Pentecost Sunday at the 11 AM Mass, we announced the names of those individuals who will be serving on this year s Pastoral Council. The following individuals will be returning to the Council Nina Cataldo, Lynn Jakob, Pam Lewis, Doug Piazza and Joe Walsh. These members will join Janeen Bodary, Mike Burke and Theresa Skora who will be fulfilling the last of their three year commitment to the council. We also welcome to the Council Diane Powell as a new member. Finally, special thanks to Larry Kosiba who has decided to retire from the Council. The Pastoral Council serves as an advisory group to the Pastor to assist in planning programs and events for the Parish. I want to personally thank each of these parishioners for answering the call of the Holy Spirit. As we inaugurate this weekend the preliminary day of the summer season, we do so rightfully remembering the fallen who made it possible for us to celebrate. Of our many freedoms insured by their sacrifice they made it possible to freely worship. All are invited to a simple outdoor Mass this Monday at Mary s shrine behind the church. Bring a lawn chair and your intention to remember what Memorial Day is all about. I have included the following prayer to help us express what is special about this coming Monday. PRAYER FOR THE FALLEN God our creator and sustainer, today our country brings to our memory those who have defended this nation in times of trouble. They have sacrificed their lives to protect our shores from those who would limit our freedoms or enslave us to ways that are against your will. Bring all those who have died in service to our country into your heavenly presence. We humbly call down your blessing on those still serving; grant your heavenly protection to these men and women, and open your Sacred Heart to give them peace and comfort. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Page 2 FAITH FORMATION By Grace Lakatos If I knew then what I know now Let s admit it, if we had known we would have run for the hills! But we don t have to be afraid and we don t have to run. The Apostles didn t know what laid ahead for them as they gathered in the upper room. They waited. They prayed even more and even harder. What a powerful message! God is always with us. His presence in the form of the Holy Spirit dwells within us to give us strength, courage, and an abundance of faith. Just as Jesus fulfilled his promise to the Apostles to care and work with abundance of faith. Just as Jesus fulfilled his promise to the Apostles to care to work with them as they went out to the world as his witnesses, so too does he fulfill that promise to us. To aid in the fulfillment, pray. And our prayer lives take practice. The more we practice the more natural prayer becomes, just like breathing. This past week, our Confirmation Preparation students were introduced to The Prayer Process developed by Matthew Kelly and the Dynamic Catholic Team. The seven step process is a simple way to engage in conversation with God every day. And isn t prayer exactly that...talking with your best friend, God? The process begins with Gratitude, simply thanking God for whatever you are most grateful today. Then thinking back over the last day, talk with God about those situations where you weren t at your best and your Awareness of it now and what you have learned from them. Moving on, think of a Significant Moment in those past 24 hours where God was trying to say something to you and explore what it might be. Next, ask God for forgiveness for any wrongs you may have committed and for a deep, abiding Peace within you. Having complete freedom to Say anything to God, ask Him how you can change your life to experience the Freedom to be the best version of yourself. Others are not to be left out of your prayer life either. Asking God to guide and bless them is also vital to a meaningful prayer life. Lastly, conclude with the prayer that Jesus taught his Apostles and disciples so many years ago. The Our Father. Our students were given the assignment to pray for 10 minutes each day from the class this past Monday to when we meet again and to journal how the time spent in prayer has changed them. Can they do it? Will they do it? Will you pray with them and for them? And if you know one of them, remind them of the assignment, please. PARISH NEWS HOLIDAY OFFICE HOURS Mass will take place at 9 AM on Monday at the Shrine of Mary. Remember that the office will be closed that day and will re-open on Tuesday, May 29th at 9 AM. MAY OCTOBER ROSARY Please join us on Monday evenings at 6 PM at the Blessed Mother s Shrine to say the rosary. You may wish to bring a lawn chair if you need to be seated. Page 3 THE TRINITY The Trinity is central to Christian revelation in which God the Father gives the Son to the world as a love offering, confirmed and kept alive in the spirit of their mutual love and unity. In this image, the great Father-Wakan Tanka appears with a full headdress of eagle feathers in a halo of light. His open hands deliver the Son, a victorious Sioux warrior whose raised arms and open hands reflect a similar gesture of self-giving. He wears a richly decorated buckskin war shirt-heavily fringed, beaded and painted with the four color circle of the universe as its breast plate. The eagle complete the spiral of Trinitarian love and unity. Traditional iconography gives witness to the human face of the Sacred. This icon, imaged in the features of America s indigenous peoples, reveals anew that sacred poser. It celebrated the soul of the Native American as the original spiritual presence on this continent, and as a prophetic sign, it celebrates the reconciliation of the spiritual vision of Native and Christian peoples of this land.
