If you cannot be present to pray with us at the parish at these times, simply join in prayer with us spiritually by briefly thinking of our Lord s Passion & Death every day at 3:00pm and especially on Friday s at 3:00pm by simply praying the words, Jesus I Trust in You. Donna Marie Stanislaw EUCHARISTIC ADORATION When we participate in the practice of perpetual adoration, we put ourselves in direct contact with the God of presence and mission. Our action as adorers pales in the face of God s action of infusing us with the spirit of the Devine Being. We are changed dramatically just by being in this living presence and being open to the action of our gracious God. We become instruments of God s peace, mercy, joy, consolation, or courage. The more we celebrate the small miracles of daily life, the more we realize the very personal action of God in our daily living. (From Eucharistic Adoration Reflections in the Franciscan Tradition, Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration) Please prayerfully consider committing to a weekly hour with Our Lord. We are in need of committed Adorers for the following hours: Wednesdays 3pm-4pm; Thursdays noon-1pm, 2pm-3pm, 3pm- 4pm, 4pm-5pm, 5pm-6pm, 10pm-11pm; Fridays 4am-5am, 4pm- 5pm, 7pm-8pm, 8pm-9pm, 9pm-10pm, and Saturdays 3am-4am, 5am-6am. St. John the Evangelist Weekly Bulletin Dear Folks, The Epiphany Of The Lord Ah, the new year begins. Let us be grateful for the season of graces that abounds with the Christmas blessings. The days will get longer, brighter, and warmer as we move through the Winter towards Spring. But, not too fast. We have yet to see our first real snowfall. That will be coming in short order. Many many thanks to all who dropped off untold numbers of dinners, soups, pies, cakes, cookies, strudels, coffee cakes and rolls. Some from Philadelphia's best bakery. God bless one and all. Now on to the new diet/exercise regimen. Oh my heavens. God bless the Knights of Columbus and the Trail Life kids for their great work on organizing the parking lot for Christmas Eve's Kids Mass. It was well done and with the help of the Warrenton Police Department who helped to stave off certain disaster for a happy, healthy, and holy occasion. Thanks to those involved with all the Christmas Masses. The choirs, once again, were impeccable. The addition of musical instruments were also a nice addition to the liturgical celebrations. God bless the ushers, servers, readers, Special Ministers of Holy Communion, and sacristans. Well done good and faithful people. No small operation as there sixteen Masses offered that weekend. Frs. Rivera and Fimian offered lovely Masses for the holy days. Well done one and all. In the coming months I have asked Mrs. Norma Francis, with the assistance of her Altar Society to choose new vestments for the parish. Some are in need of replacement and with the coming of a third deacon we need to match up the deacon dalmatics with the priest vestments. Please stay tuned. Just a note to thank you for your generosity to the Poor Box this season. We even found a woman's wedding ring in the box. I will hold that for the coming year in case someone wants to reclaim it. It was a nice thought in generosity but a token better offered in setting of one's own family. Let us pray for one another. As we step into a quiet time of the year I want to take the opportunity to offer my services to any of the parishioners in need of annulments so their marriages may be blessed in the Church. Please give a call if you would like to stop by the rectory. My cell phone number is: 703-626-8113. Please, please, please. I enjoin all parishioners to participate in any of the weekly Eucharistic adoration hours. Wednesday 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Thursday 9:00 AM to Saturday 8:00 AM. Pick an hour that is suitable to your schedule. In closing. I know more than a few collegians are home from school for another week. In honor of their good work I invite them to Joe and Vinnies Pizza shop tonight. Ya'll come on down it is the day we remember the "Wise-Persons." Hmm?? Just kidding. Come one come all. See you at 7:00 PM at 385 W. Shirley Ave., Warrenton, VA Collegiate Answer: Collegiate Question: What English Marian Apparition Site of the twelfth century became a Protestant site in the sixteenth century? I am certain it must have been known to the great St. Thomas More, whose family offered an evening rosary each day. D Father Gould 4

Helping our Own Parishioners As an apostolate Ministry, Hoops volunteers have come to the aid of St. John's parishioners as well as our community neighbors. Ready to serve those who are in need a network of volunteers are ready to lend a helping hand. The Christmas Season is a busy one for many of us, however there are many who continue to need help. HOOPS Ministry is especially in need of volunteers who can help during the daytime and can serve to sit, visit and assist the eldery. If you have an extra few hours to commit once a week, once a month or just once please consider volunteering. A few hours served can make a world of difference in someone's life. Volunteers Interest Please Contact Barb Mathews at Matthewsb@comcast.net "Good works are links that form a chain of love." Mother Teresa For Hoops Ministry assistance please send inquiries to Hoopsministry@gmail.com - or contact Mary Theresa Gilbert at 540-229-1344 Thank you "Christmas is an event which is renewed in every family, parish and community which receives the love of God made incarnate in Jesus Christ. Like Mary, the Church shows to everyone the "sign" of God: the Child whom she bore in her womb and to whom she gave birth, yet who is the Son of the Most High, since he "is of the Holy Spirit" (Mt 1:20). Knights of Columbus Council 5561 www.vakofc5561.org The Epiphany Of The Lord Always speak and act as men destined for judgment under the law of freedom. Merciless is the judgment on the man who has not shown mercy; but mercy triumphs over judgment. My brothers, what good is it to profess faith without practicing it? Such faith has no power to save one, has it? If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and no food for the day, and you say to them, goodbye and good luck! Keep warm and well fed, but do not meet their daily needs, what good is that? So, it is with the faith that does nothing in practice. It is thoroughly lifeless.
