The Church at Litchfield Park A house of prayer for all people, aspiring to be as inclusive as the love of God 1

WE HAVE GATHERED AS A FAMILY OF FAITH Fifth Sunday of Easter April 29, 2018 8:00 a.m. The Church at Litchfield Park, aspiring to be as inclusive as the love of God, welcomes everyone who comes to the doors of this House of Prayer for all People. CHIMES PRELUDE Voluntary Guilmant WELCOME, REGISTRATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS PASTORAL PRAYER LORD S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. CHORAL CALL TO WORSHIP Shout to the Lord arr. Allan R. DOXOLOGY No. 815 Leaning on the Everlasting Arms No. 575 What a fellowship, what a joy divine, leaning on the everlasting arms. What a blessedness, what a peace is mine, leaning on the everlasting arms. Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms; leaning, leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms. BENEDICTION POSTLUDE My Savior s Love Gabriel 1 John 4:16b-18 (NIV) And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. CONGREGATION PLEASE STAND (AS YOU ARE ABLE) Assisted Hearing devices and large print hymnals and bulletins are available for use during services. Please contact an usher if you would like to use one of these. 3

WE HAVE GATHERED AS A FAMILY OF FAITH Fifth Sunday of Easter April 29, 2018 9:15 a.m. The Church at Litchfield Park, aspiring to be as inclusive as the love of God, welcomes everyone who comes to the doors of this House of Prayer for all People. CHIMES PRELUDE Voluntary Guilmant BRINGING IN THE LIGHT SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Asher Everett Ashby WELCOME, REGISTRATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS CHORAL CALL TO WORSHIP Shout to the Lord arr. Allan R. Petker CALL TO WORSHIP L: Welcome dear friends to this historic House of Prayer for All People, as we gather together to worship God in the Spirit of Jesus Christ. P: The love of God is palpable in this place. We can feel it in the lingering presence of our faithful forbearers who have handed to us the responsibility to share God s love with another generation. L: Like those who have gone before, God s love accepts us as we are and is too great to allow us to remain as we are. P: May God s love manifest itself in our lives that we may live and pass on to others the mercy and grace God has given us. HYMN O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus No. 352 PRAYER OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY (In Unison) Dear God, though the scriptures proclaim that you are love, the circumstances of life often make us feel abandoned and alone. We sometimes feel like life is against us, and you are idly watching our suffering. Help us to trust you, dear Lord. Help us to move beyond our fears so that we can feel your enduring presence in the midst of life s troubles. 4

L: Let us now pray together the prayer that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ taught us: P: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. ANTHEM You Raise Me Up/Be Still My Soul arr. Tom Fettke SCRIPTURE READING 1 John 4:16b-18 L: The Word of the Lord.
