Mental and physical abilities decline. One s world can become much smaller when one is unable to drive, has difficulty walking, has difficulty hearing and seeing. KIDS NEED A MISSION! Everyone needs a mission in life. Children need a mission in life. Adults are to help children discover and fulfill this need. ELDERLY CAN LONELY + KIDS NEEDING A MISSION = MONTHLY MASS AT THE HARBOR On February 8, 2013 St. Bernard School and I began a monthly Mass at the Harbor in NYA. Every 2 nd Monday of the month a St. Bernard class and myself took a bus to the Harbor (senior living and assisted living) where we celebrated a short Mass (thanks Dean Johnson bus driver and the Norwood Bus Company for your generosity!). Students, I want each of you to report back to the class one observation and one sacrifice you made during the visit/mass. These were my instructions to help the students be more attentive, to offer up to Jesus some little sacrifice, and to enrich each other by sharing their experience. ELDERLY CAN LONELY + KIDS NEEDING A MISSION = MONTHLY MASS AT THE HARBOR It continues in the summer (except for July). Any parents/grandparents who would like to give their children a miniature mission trip, come on down to the Harbor for the 10:15am Mass June 14 th and/or August 9 th. St. Anthony of Padua & St. Jeanne Jugan (Patron Saints of the elderly), pray for us! Fr. Gregory Sunday Mass times In January, 2013 we began our new Sunday Mass schedule at Ascension and St. Bernard. Now that we are approaching 6 months of experience with this schedule I am soliciting parishioner comments. You will have this opportunity at the June 1st/2nd and June 8th/9th Sunday Masses. Slips requesting parishioners comments will be available at those Masses. The slips will be available at the doors of the church one slip per individual/family, please. Please drop completed comment slips into the collection baskets. Changes in the schedule may be made as I consider the comments given. Wives, give your husbands the greatest gift of all, the gift of your love on a Marriage Encounter Weekend. We, though many, are still one body in Christ. And we, though husband and wife, became one body in our Sacrament. Like Jesus feeds us with His Body, we need to feed our marriage body so that it grows and is productive. Gregory Away July 9 12 th I will be at the School Pastors Institute at the University of Notre Dame. I will be attending seminars for pastors of parishes with Catholic schools. My hope is to gain more insight on how to be a good pastor of a parish with a Catholic school. The Institute will bring pastors together from (arch)dioceses across the country for four days of workshops, prayer, and leisure. If there is a Pastoral emergency please call my cell phone. May 22nd our 6th grade students were honored at a special Mass and reception. For the next several weeks we will be sharing their graduation address which they based on the word LOVE. This week we gave the letter L L stands for LESSONS. We have learned so many lessons in reading, math, spelling, social studies, science, writing, religion and English. We have become proficient at many academic skills, and we are still working on some. After all, this is only the beginning of our education. We have a long way to go and a lot more to learn. The most important lessons we have learned, though, are about what it means to be a loving Christian. We can have all the knowledge in the world, but if we don t have love, we are nothing. We can earn all the money in the world, but if we don t have love, we have nothing. Jesus taught the apostles many lessons about love. He said, Love one another as I have loved you. That is the greatest lesson St. Bernard s has taught us. We hope we can make that lesson a life-long part of our lives and make a difference by being of service to others.
