A NOTE FROM FATHER Dear Parishioners, Happy Second Sunday of Advent! This sacred season of preparation calls us to reconciliation. Our Jewish brothers and sisters, as they prepare to celebrate their new year (Rosh Hashanah) mark Yom Kippur - Day of Atonement. On that day, they fast, do works of charity, and most especially go to one another asking forgiveness for the ways that they have hurt others. I think this is a beautiful custom, and our days of atonement are Advent! We should seek forgiveness from those we have hurt, and most importantly participate in the sacrament of Reconciliation to be assured of God s forgiveness. There is no better way to prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ. Last week, the St. Peter Administrative Council met. We welcomed Deb Geldner as a new member. The Chair is Dennis Milner, and other members are Jeff Gilbertson, Ken Meixner, Deane Peterson, Paschal Kyoore, and ex officio Agnes Stensby (Trustee) and Jennifer Schugel-Torres (Business Manager). We discussed the role of the council as consultative, meaning that they give recommendations and suggestions for the temporal/worldly affairs of the parish as well as assist the Area Pastoral Council in the spiritual affairs specific to our parish. In addition to reviewing the financial matters, we spent some time talking about a situation that has been happening with more frequency. Apparently, people are dialing into our telephone system and then attempting to dial out to international numbers. We have a block on such things, but until we change telephone systems to digital, this will continue. Also, with more devices, we need to address the internet issues with the school. We have exceeded the bandwidth that we currently have, nor can we add any more with our current service. Both of these could be solved with installation of a fiber optic line and new phones, but this is not a cheap process. The council advised that we start looking at solutions so that we can get a plan in place. For those curious, our current phone system was a used analog system when we installed it, About 3 years ago, we had to replace a voicemail component, and were told that we would no longer find parts for it. ~ In Christ, Fr. Todd JOHN IRELAND NEWS www.churchofstpeter.org/ji We are a Catholic community welcoming students of all faiths, devoted to Gospel Values, Academic Excellence, and Christian Service. 2nd Sunday of Advent 3
