Happy Valentines S T P H I L I P T H E A P O S T L E C O U N C I L 9 8 8 4 Jauary 2017 February Newsletter Grand Knight Report Greetings Brothers Look for your member number somewhere in the newsletter. If you find it show up to the meeting and get a prize! Must be present to win! Inside this issue: Grand Knight Report 1 DGK Report 2 Valentine Invitation Calendar Birthday s and Anniversaries 4 Catholic Men s Conference Major Degree announcement 3 5 It seems like Christmas was just yesterday and here we are staring into February. I thought Dec. was busy and then Jan-Feb hit. At the Planning Meeting on the 19th I put together a Calendar and from that day until Ash Wednesday we have listed 21 events. Some that take one person and some that take many people and others in between that. I want to assure you that more activities was not my intent when I became Grand Knight. But there are more Cheerfest and more Casino Nights that past years. The DJ business has 6 more engagements than last year. Two things I did push for was multiple nights for the Fish Fry on Feb. 7 and the Major Degree Feb 19 to held here at our parish. The restoration of the Smoker has added a view activities but they seem to be more FUN than a burden. You all have been stellar in your kindness and giving spirit of sharing your precious time with us. As we enter into our most holy of seasons I hope our March settles a little and gives us some time to reflect on our lives and our families. How we can bring our lives closer to line up with the way Jesus Christ wanted us to. We do what we do so we can help others. If you have not made any degree past your First I really hope you take advantage of the opportunity to advance here at our own Ceremony. Let any of the officers know. Answer the call when you get it or follow up with the email you might get. Lastly, our Seminarian Maurice Moon has troubles and has asked for our help. We hope the Fish City Grill funraiser can help with that. We will vote on that Thursday! The Smoker is Active Council Dues are out. Fourth Degree News Thank You to Helpers Officers and Directors 6 7 8 9 10 Best Wishes! Dan Jacobs Grand Knight

February Newsletter Page 2 We had 2 Casino Nights in Dec to get us ready for Janruary and beyond! Deputy Grand Knight Report I hope this note finds you doing well. I want to thank you for all the work that was done during January, know that our Works and prayers are helping not only our Brother Knights but families in our community. From attending the Rosary for Life the 1 st Saturday of the month to the Toll Tag Casino being held 28 January, many hours of work were done. If you have been to any of the meetings this month it seems that we have had more Brothers in attendance than in the past. I pray that you continue to come to our meetings and consider getting more involved. Do you want to know what the Knights of Columbus 9884 are doing? Click on the following link; https:// kofcknights.org/councilsite/?cno=9884 and then click on Event Calendar. I try to keep it updated as much as possible. One can even click on the box Show Birthdays to see whose birthday is this month so that you can send them a birthday card or give them a call to wish them a Happy Birthday. Have you heard about our newest SMOKER? Tom Kupper built the smoker several years ago and somehow it was forgotten. Well when we are lost and feel forgotten we come back to the church, go to confession, get involved and we start to feel alive again. The smoker went through a similar experience. It was sanded down, rewelded and repainted, got some newer tires and is now smoking hot. We are planning on smoking several briskets for Super Bowl Sunday and are being sold for $50 but this deal is only for Brother Knights. Kyle Henson has some really great ideas for the smoker as fund raisers, if you are having a Super Bowl Party and don t want to stay up all night smoking that brisket, we will, like I said its only $50. On the other hand, we need some brother Knights who can help in monitoring the briskets. There will be a taste test that needs to get done at some point. If you want to order your brisket or help out for a few hours please contact Kyle Henson at (817) 913-7599. February will be a relatively busy month. We have a PCB that will come a week earlier than normal. A Cheerfest weekend, back to back Saturday and Sunday, a Major Degree and to finish off the month of February is a casino at St Ann s in Coppell. These are the main events where we need your help. I m looking forward to seeing new faces and newest members to our Council. There is a little bit of work to do but it s more fun that work. As you go through the website please stop by and read the newsletters or past meeting notes. Within the newsletters you can see what we have been doing in the past, some newsletters may be missing as we went through a period without a newsletter editor. In the meeting notes you can see our financials and what organizations we have been assisting but most important is the prayer list. Even though the newsletters are for past dates I urge you to read the names of those that needed prayer. We all need prayer, and we need to remember to pray for those in purgatory. I hope that most of you are still adhering to your New Year s Resolutions. January brought all kinds of weather from record breaking lows to some rally nice sunny days, yep, this is TEXAS. The next General Council meeting is on Feb 2, I hope to see many of you there. Bring your list of people to add to the prayer list, bring your list of ideas for the smoker and fund raising, but most important bring yourself on down to the St Philip CLC and have a visit with some of your brothers and friends. Thank you and may the spirit of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity be reflected in everything we do. DGK Louis Hernandez Hernandez.Louie@verizon.net 214-300-1931
