ARCHDIOCESE OF DETROIT www.aod.org BOOK & GIFT SHOP Open weekends before & after Masses FROM THE PASTOR S DESK By Fr. Terry Kerner I think we can all be very proud of how we celebrated the Canonization Anniversary of St. Kateri last weekend. So many volunteers contributed to its success. The multiple liturgical events which included the Anointing Mass, Penance Service, Benediction, Way of the Cross, and Masses all lent a special spiritual meaning for so many. The meals, all three days, were outstanding especially Sunday s Ethnic Buffet. Probably one of the greatest blessings of the weekend was the coming together of so many parishioners working together and appreciating one another as they broke bread. I think we can say sincerely that we are a blessing to one another! THANK YOU to all who participated. As we celebrated one saint last weekend we can look forward to remembering all the saints this coming Wednesday. The Feast of All Saints a holy day of obligation commemorates all those men and women and boys and girls who loved their faith and diligently lived it day in and day out by serving and loving God. All did it without canonization or being portrayed in a stained glass window. All did it with fidelity to their vocation in life. All Saints are your grandparents and parents, your aunts and uncles, your husbands and wives, your siblings and your children and all who have entered eternal life with the Lord. The Mass times when you can honor and remember them are, Noon, and 5:00 PM this Wednesday. Our parishioners who have entered eternal life since last All Saints will be remembered in a special way next Sunday, November 5th at the 11:00 AM Mass. Their names will be proclaimed, their souls prayed for, and a candle placed on the altar by their family or a parishioner. All are welcome to be a part of this prayerful Mass. November is the traditional month of remembering the souls in Purgatory. Pray for the faithful departed, visit the cemetery, console one another. Tickets for the Solanus Casey Beatification Mass can be picked up beginning November 1st after each holy day Mass and during the day at the parish office. It looks like we are on the 40 yard line not bad! More information regarding the bus and parking will be published next week. Please hold all those good questions until then. Many thanks. PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY, OCTOBER 29TH Please join us for a reception at the St. Sebastian Activity Center for those who attend a Holy Hour for our Priests after the 12:30 Mass. We honor Fr. Ptak, Fr. Babcock, Fr. Aaron, Fr. Luke, Fr. Johnson, Bp. Battersby, Fr. Gagala, Fr. Luedtke, Fr. Zaleski, Msgr. Dylag, Fr. Tony Fox, Fr. Bob ( Capuchin),. PIME Fr. Balazy, Fr. Kerner, Fr. Darius, Fr. Page 2 PARISH NEWS JPII GIFT AND BOOK SHOP NEWS By Pat Urban & Barb Cataldo Thanks to all the volunteers who helped at the shop last weekend. We couldn t have done it without you! With your assistance and the support of our customers we were able to raise money for the Red Cloud Indian School in South Dakota. For those who follow the beautiful tradition of setting memorial candles at their loved one s graves during November, the shop carries 7 day outdoor candles, lanterns and solar candles. To remember your loved one at Christmas, we also carry memorial ornaments for the tree. As November is the month of All Saints, another American who is on the path toward sainthood is Dorothy Day. She is now considered a Servant of God and was mentioned by Pope Francis in the speech to the US Congress. Dorothy Day (along with Peter Maurin) founded the Catholic Worker movement. She was a devout lay woman, single mother, justice and peace activist. Dorothy Day s autobiography is entitled The Long Loneliness. Dorothy s granddaughter will be speaking at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral this Sunday, October 29th at 3 PM. It is not often that we get to hear a future saint s family member speak. This book will contain everything pertinent to our church: the various ministries, organizations, committees, activities, functions and events plus a complete directory of all members. This book is being provided and direct-mailed to each family at no cost to our church, and it is again being subsidized by local businesses that advertise. If you own or manage a business and would like to find out about advertising in our book, please call our Church Office. Here is a chance to update YOUR record for our annual Guide Book. Please let us know any changes, additions or deletions that may have occurred in YOUR family over the past year. Have you changed your phone number? Have you moved? Are you preparing to move soon? Are all of your children still at home and are they included in your membership record? Do you want your record published? If you have not already informed us about changes to your record, please let us know now so that the information in the Guide Book & Directory is correct. The Church Office number is 336.3227.
