ARCHDIOCESE OF DETROIT www.aod.org BOOK & GIFT SHOP Open weekends before & after Masses FROM THE PASTOR S DESK By Fr. Terry Kerner My gratitude to all our fathers of St. Kateri Parish. We don t celebrate this day as equal time with Mother s Day but for its importance for the men of our families and parish who have been so significant to us. As we honored in May the special ladies in our lives, so now we take the time to recognize the important men in families. God s blessings on all our living and deceased fathers. All our dads will be remembered at each mass this weekend. While we say a prayer for our fathers this weekend, I would like to share the following prayer that any dad would probably want to offer for his family. Heavenly Father, I thank you for the gift of my family, for whom I now pray and upon whom I now ask you to shower your blessings. With Saint Joseph as my guide, may I always be ready to spend my life for them. Bless my wife whom you have given to me as my spouse, sharing in your wondrous work of creation. May I see her as my equal and treat her with the love of Christ for the Church. May Mary be her guide and help her to find your peace and your grace. Bless my children with your life and presence. May the example of your Son be the foundation upon which their lives are built, that the Gospel may always be their hope and support. I ask you, Father, to protect and bless my family. Watch over it so that in the strength of your love its members may enjoy prosperity, possess the gift of your peace and, as the Church alive in this home, always bear witness to your glory in the world. (Continued from page 2) PARISH NEWS TRAVEL By Pat Ayland There has been a lot of interest in our AUTUMN GETAWAY trip to upstate New York. The dates are September 24-29, 2017, and we re visiting the St. Kateri Shrine, the National Baseball Hall of Fame, West Point Academy, FDR Library and museum and more. Think about getting your reservation in early. Flyers are available at the entrances to the church. Please call the church office at 336-3227 or Pat Ayland at 441.3355 with questions. JPII GIFT AND BOOK SHOP NEWS Evangelization? Missionary Disciples? What does the Archbishop mean when he has asked that we do this? Are we now expected to stand on the street corners? Buy a megaphone? These questions may come to mind as you hear and read about Archbishop Vigneron s newly released pastoral letter related to the Fall 2016 Synod. A good place to start to learn about these topics is to read Pope Francis papal exhortation, The Joy of the Gospel. The book is easy to read and explains the Pope s vision and very practical suggestions for us as individual believers and the Church as a whole. CATHOLIC BIBLICAL SCHOOL OF MICHIGAN Do you wish to know more about the Bible? The Catholic Biblical School of Michigan is opening its classes here at St. Kateri! Morning and evening classes will meet on Thursdays from September to May and will study the entire Bible in four years. Those interested in learning more about the program are invited to attend one information night. The Catholic Biblical School of Michigan will host two more information nights on Thursday July 6, and August 10 at 7 PM. Brochures for the scripture study program are found at www.cbsmich.org. CSA Vatican Bible schools allow children to enjoy themselves while growing spiritually. Through the archdiocesan Department of Evangelization, Catechesis and schools, your gifts to the CSA support the work of catechists, who plan vacation Bible school in parishes throughout the Archdiocese. These faith-filled weeks during the summer help children encounter Christ in a relaxing and fun way. Dedicated catechists also teach our faith in parishes and Catholic schools. Their mission includes helping others to reflect on their Catholic faith and understand its purpose in today s world. For information about CSA-funded miniseries, programs and services, please go to www.aod.org. KNIGHTS NOTES Remember that our Friday Fish Fry continues every Friday from 4 PM 8 PM. Join us every Tuesday for our Polish Dinners starting at 4 PM. The cost is $8.95 per person for your choice of two entrees, mashed potatoes and vegetable. And don t forget our Taco Thursdays. 2017 Dearborn Homecoming is fast approaching and we are beginning to look for volunteers to help with our largest fundraises of the year. If a member, wife, sibling, child, or friend would like to help, please contact Rob Ciavaglia at 248-613-6591 or email at mrciavaglia@sbcglobal.net. This is a wonderful opportunity to let the community know what the Knights of Columbus does for our area.
