Hello, Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 9, 2017 Last weekend I got to baptize twins, once before I got to baptize triplets. I don t know why, but these seem particularly memorable compared to baptizing two or three babies that aren t related, or even if they are related that aren t so closely related and recognizing how much they will share in their lives together. That might be a part of it, recognizing how close they will be, and for baptism how close we are all meant to be, and intended to be eventually in heaven. I don t know what it is like to have a twin, but being the youngest of seven children and my next brother only being 13 months older than me I do know what it is like to be a sibling. I think we lose the value of this at times, of having someone that we share so much with, of who we are, of our past experiences that knows us so well. Even in a marriage, until you ve been together for very many years you don t share in all of your past like you do with a sibling when you are young. And with a twin or a triplet I m sure that gets magnified all the more. I think a reason why that is so special for baptism is that in baptism we are all to become siblings, with God as our father. Adopted children is the phrase that is used at times, but still we recognize the great difference between parents and children when they are young, and so we recognize the great difference between God and us that places us even closer to each other as siblings compared to our difference from God. Now consider if you knew all those who are baptized as well as you knew your closest sibling. Yes, as kids we don t always treat each other as we should, but if we make the effort we understand each other, we know the challenges and difficulties they are going through, and how they will take what is said to them. I know there are some things with my closest brother that even though we haven t lived in the same state since the first summer of college and he has been married for over 30 years now, there can still be things his wife just doesn t understand about him that are quite obvious to me. Could we be that knowledgeable, that understanding, that close to all others? Even if we haven t seen them for long periods, we care about them and know we share some of the most important things in common, so there is no reason to hide anything from each other. We can trust them and know they understand and care about us. I imagine that closeness is something that twins and triplets share, that is something we are all meant to share, and even if we don t quite live up to what it should be every day, know we share the most caring parent in God. We wait in joyful expectation for the coming of our Lord as King. But what we are told to expect and rejoice over is a meek and humble king, riding on an ass. Not horses or chariots of the great and mighty, but a humble beast carries the Ruler whose dominion stretches from the River to the ends of the earth (Zechariah 9:10). This King comes to banish the tools of the warrior and bring peace. No wonder that a weary world rejoices and gives thanks to God! Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. Rest In Peace In your charity, please pray for the sick in our parish family, and for those who have died, May our Heavenly Father welcome them into His eternal home and may He send the comfort only He can to their family and friends. GOING SOMEWHERE? Don t forget to look for churches near your destination and check Mass times. Visit www.masstimes.org to locate parishes around the country and the world. OR BONUS If you have the my- Parish app on your phone you will be able to find a Church no matter where you are! The Deadline to submit an ar cle for the bulle n is Monday at 10 am Are you a Registered Parishioner? Did you know that demographic studies estimate that more than 1/3 of all Catholics are NOT registered in a parish? If you are not registered in our parish, please consider doing so. Also, please encourage your friends and family to register. Registering is important because: If a parish doesn t know who is out there, how can it adequately serve the needs of all especially singles, divorced or young families who may not see the need to register? When the services of the Church are needed, such as for a wedding, baptism or funeral it is easier if the person is already registered. Registering is easy. Simply call the Rectory, Monday Friday, 8:30 4:00 and we will take the information over the phone! (314-726-1221) We look forward to welcoming all Catholics in our area as registered members

Children's Liturgy During 11am Mass We are still having Children's Liturgy throughout the summer for children in 2nd grade and under. Come to Mass as a family and during the Liturgy of the Word the kids can hear the readings on their own level. WE NEED HELP! The gardens around St. Joseph s are so beautiful. It takes constant care to remain that way. Will you help us? We have divided the different areas of the garden into very manageable pieces which requires a little weeding on a regular basis. Watering is not necessary since we have a sprinkler system. We are asking for anyone who has some time to help with weeding to please contact Thom or Ann Schwetye. We will weed most Wednesdays and Thursdays after work from about 4:30 to 5:30 if you would like to join us at that time. If you choose to weed a small section on your own timeframe please just let us know and you can choose your spot. We are asking for just a small portion of your time---whatever time you can give is appreciated. Thanks for all who help now and have helped in the past!
