July 9, 2017 Father Solanus Casey Beatification Set for November 18 at Ford Field in Detroit The Capuchin Franciscan Order of St. Joseph in Detroit has announced that the date for the Father Solanus Casey beatification ceremony will be Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Ford Field in Detroit. This follows the historic announcement by Pope Francis on May 4 that Father Solanus Casey will be elevated to Blessed in the Roman Catholic Church. Details on the Fr. Solanus Casey beatification ceremony, including ceremony time, will be released in the coming weeks and available at solanuscasey.org/beatification and aod.org. Ticket information will be made available by August 15. Ford Field will be configured to accommodate approximately 60,000 guests for the ceremony. Missionary Co-Op in July at St. Augustine & Holy Family Parishes Fr. Anthony Mutio is from the Catholic Diocese of Kitui, Kenya. He has recently arrived from Kenya to assist the Catholic Diocese of Peoria, IL and travel around the US doing mission appeals in the summer for the Kitui Diocese. Fr. Anthony will be visiting St. Augustine the weekend of July 16th and visiting Holy Family on the weekend of July 23rd. Fr. Anthony was ordained in 2003. The Kitui Diocese is in a sub Saharan plain, where one of the greatest challenges is drought and famine. Access to clean water and ample rain are a constant challenge for everyone there. Most people rely on subsistence farming to feed their families. This is difficult in times of drought. The trickledown effect of this influences everything including education, since schools close without clean water and fees for tuition are redirected to buy food since the crops fail. The burden that many feel during these times of need leave them feeling hopeless, if not for their faith. Your support during this mission appeal is vital for the hope it provides. God Bless, Fr. Page 4 F A I T H M A T T E R S July 9, 2017 WOW GOD! Another successful Vacation Bible School week! There were 136 campers (pre-school through 6th grade) and 81 youth leaders (age 13 and up). Thank you to all those who have helped make Maker Fun Factory a successful week of Vacation Bible School for our Clustered Parish Families and neighbors. The décor was colorful and well thought out in all the areas of the building. The Lego wall was ingenious. The robots were adorable. The VBS campers were intrigued by all of it. No successful event goes on without the help of volunteers and leadership: Group Leaders of all ages, Kitchen / Snack Aides, Craft Aides, Construction & Decorating Crews, Actors, Bible Adventure Leaders, Skit Leaders, Kid Video Leaders, Game Leaders, Audio / Visual Tech, VBS organizer and VBS Coordinator. Thank you, thank you to all those who donated their time and resources to treat our community with a memorable Vacation Bible School week. 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest." Is there anyone to whom this doesn't apply? Don't we all have to labor at something, whether it be work, school, relationships, household affairs, or personal, emotional, or mental battles? Aren't we all burdened in some way at some time. Jesus offers us powerful words of consolation in today's Gospel. He promises us rest. He calls all of us to himself, along with the baggage and burdens that we carry, and assures us that we will find relief. Thank God! What a gift for our tired, weary souls. The strange part about the passage, however, is when Jesus suggests that in order to find this wonderful rest, we have to take a "yoke" upon our shoulders. This of course is a reference to the animal harness of old that would join two oxen together to share the weight of the load they carried. He tells us, "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me... For my yoke is easy, and my burden light." Somehow, joining Jesus in his work is supposed to bring us rest! Contrary to the standard belief that not working is the source of relief, Jesus urges us to join him in his mission in order to find peace. But what is this mission? To be "meek and humble of heart." Jesus' work is to do whatever God the Father wants him to do. As he says elsewhere, "My food is to do the will of the one who sent me and to finish his work" (Jn 4:34). So, it seems that if we also humbly submit to doing God's work -with Jesus right alongside us as our partner in the task-we will "find rest" for ourselves. So as we labor through the trials of the day, may we bear this in mind, and pray that we may handle them according to the will of God.

July 9, 2017 E V A N G E L I Z A T I O N Page 5 Mail Call Q. Doesn t the Catholic Church make too much of the mother of Jesus? A WEEK OF HELPING OTHERS A. Well I certainly hope so. Let s not forget, the church on earth is not a hotel for saints, it is a hospital for sinners. We have the Church Triumphant (heaven), The Church Penitent (purgatory), and the Church Militant (us on earth). Our militant understandings are so far below His reality that our too much pales to God s Glory. Jesus glorified his mother in ways far beyond our understanding. The most extravagant office we can imagine doesn t come close to measuring up to her. Our human too much falls short but it displays our desire to do our best. Through Jesus all things were created (John 1:3 Colossians 1:16). This means that Jesus created His own mother. If you were in that position wouldn t you create the best mom you possible could? If God did indeed create His own human, earthly mother - wouldn t He do the same? Wouldn t the mother you would create for yourself have the most beautiful complexion, the highest intellect, greatest capacity to love, the most humble spirit, the most kind hearted, and be the most patient mother of all time? Operation Olive Branch Operation Olive Branch will begin calling on our parishioners that we have not seen in a while to invite them back to church. Please join us at Holy Family on Saturday, July 15th. Mass at 9:00 am, Visiting 10:00-11:30 am, Dismiss 12 noon The Blessed Virgin Mother Mary would indeed be all of the above and more. More because our human concept of these attributes can t measure up to God s fullness. The best we can do is make too much of her from our inadequate understanding. Since Sacred Scripture doesn t record Jesus ever saying anything frivolous we can be sure that His dying words from the cross were intended to convey a very important message. The Bible doesn t actually name John in the above passage it only says the disciple He loved. Are we not all disciples He loves? Therefore we can insert our own names into this passage. Since we are members of the body of Christ (Romans 12:4-5 & 1 Corinthians 12:12-27) is Mary not our mother too? We just can t appreciate her too much. PASSION & PURPOSE Join us this Monday to learn Easy Lessons for a Happy Life through the Matthew Kelly DVD Series Living Every Day with Passion and Purpose. NO cost and NO homework! The musical repertoire ranges from classic rock to country, hard rock to R&B, and show tunes to Top 40. Yes they did!!!! The K of C has offered to put on a Polish Dinner for the Festival this year and we are thrilled. The K of C s Polish Dinner is so authentic because it is made from scratch. People rave about how good it is. To show them our gratitude and excitement, we are seeking volunteers to help the K of C prepare and cook; can you help?? If you would like to help, please contact Sue Ann Wessel, Larry Pfeifer or the parish office. Thank you in advance.
