Page 2 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK By Fr. Terry Kerner As families gather around the Thanksgiving dinner table conversations often turn to their plans for the Holidays. The following schedule of liturgies and events at St. Katari might be helpful in your planning: December 19 at 11:00 AM we will celebrate our Advent Penance Service 20 from Noon 2:00 PM the annual Parish Christmas Party for ALL parishioners 24 Christmas Eve Masses at 4 PM & 6 PM, 25 Christmas Day at 10:00 AM 27 The Feast of the Holy Family: at the 11 AM Mass Jubilarians celebrating 25th, 30th, 35th, 40th, 45th, 50th, and more years of marriage will be honored. But even before we sit down to next Thursday s dinner, we have the Harvest Dinner to attend, homemade apple pies to pick up, and Giving Tree charities to consider. This time of year, even despite all the world s tragedies swirling around us, it is always the time to think of others and how we can share blessings. St. Kateri, along with the patronage of St. Martha and St. Joseph is a very generous parish. May we never forget the ultimate source of our blessings. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! FAMILY FAITH FORMATION By Grace Lakatos FAITH FORMATION When we pray, we are not merely reciting a mental laundry list to God of what we want or what needs to be done. We are joining together our hopes, dreams, emotions, desires, faith and deepest emotions into a passionate plea to God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Whether our prayers are for ourselves or others, what is most important is that we pray. The unity between the Father, Son and Holy Spirit weaves our prayers with a love so great, it is unimaginable and transcends life and death. We may not always see a direct answer to our prayers, like a cause-and-effect situation, but that doesn t matter! To pray is all that matters. As we near the season of Advent and Christmas, I hope each of you will take the time to pray about the numerous areas of need in our parish and in the greater community around us. After doing so, if you are inclined to ease the burden of those needs, here are just a few to consider: Holiday Mail for Heroes: Man the table after attending Mass for the next 2 weekends to encourage parishioners to sign cards for our military servicemen, families and veterans. Faith Formation Program: Assist with meal preparation and serving, Saturdays November 21st, December 5th or December 19th. Donate part or all of a meal to our program (additional dates in 2016 available.). Giving Tree: Provide assistance in sorting and delivering gifts on Monday, December 21st. Christmas Cookies: Start thinking of your favorite Christmas cookie recipe and plan on preparing a batch to share at our parish Christmas party on Sunday, December 20th. St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry: Every single box of cereal or can of soup helps someone in need. Our collection sadly has no end date in sight. The number of those in need increases daily. If all you can spare is a single can, add it to our collection and pray that one day it won t be needed at all, and if it is, you are able to provide more. Page 4 (Continued from page 3) COMING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS Our celebration of Christmas at St. Kateri will be on Sunday, December 20th from Noon to 2 PM. This year we will feature a walking tour to find the baby Jesus via The Journey to Bethlehem. The tour will begin at the East end of Heritage Hall, with various stops along the way, ultimately to the final stop, the manger. Details of this tour will be discovered only by your participation as PERFORMERS or travelers! We hope to have enough volunteers to provide Snow Shifts and no one will be left out in the cold. There will be no script, so no memorization needed. Joseph and Mary hopefuls need not apply if you are allergic to donkeys! Otherwise, we need an Innkeeper and a couple of Angels (no experience necessary). Please contact the parish office if you are willing to be a performer for this journey! It takes a PARISH to build a community! Please consider helping with this event in some way.
