Page 2 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK By Fr. Terry Kerner As you noticed on the front page of the bulletin, five men were ordained to the Priesthood this Saturday morning. This was the class of seminarians that many of you have been praying for over the last few years. Please continue to pray for them as they begin their priestly ministry in the next few weeks. One of the five, Fr. Craig Marion has asked to celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Kateri in the near future. We are honored at his request. We will also celebrate Mass with Tim DuBois, our parish seminarian who is home from Rome for the summer. This weekend Deacon Jack Gardner will be speaking at all the liturgies explaining the opportunity to grow in our knowledge of Scripture through the Catholic Biblical School. St. Kateri will be hosting these classes on Thursdays in September. The Deacon will be conducting an information meeting this Thursday, June 8 at 7:00 PM in the gathering space. And Thursday evening June 8th, Sarah Brant, Care Coordinator for the American Indian Health Family Services, will be speaking on the theme of Good Medicine. Discussion starts at 6:30 PM in the St. Francis Hall (parish hall). The session is open to the public. I want to invite folks to consider enjoying the Autumn Getaway scheduled for September 24-29. Information is available at the church entrances or by contacting the parish office. The parish-sponsored excursion includes a little something for everyone at a beautiful time of year in upstate New York. Thanks to all who have committed to this year s CSA. We are, as of this past Tuesday at 83% of our parish target. I thank you for your attention to this important annual drive. This year we can certainly use any surplus funds over our target. We will apply any and all to the replacement of our heating and air-conditioning equipment in the parish hall. New lighting is also part of the project and is part of our goal to create energy efficient systems in our building. On a final note, drawings for three vacancies on our Pastoral Council will take place at the 11:00 AM Mass on Sunday, June 11 the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity. The selected parishioners will serve a one year term. Currently two volunteers have expressed their desire to serve. Qualifications include being a confirmed and practicing Catholic with a love for the parish and a desire to serve. If you are interested, let me know this week. Have an enjoyable week! PARISH NEWS JPII GIFT AND BOOK SHOP NEWS BY PAT URBAN Spring and summer are usually months of family celebrations such as graduations, wedding and ordinations. The shop carries cards that commemorate those events. Looking for some inspirational summer reading? Biographies of contemporary people striving to live good lives in our complicated world can encourage us on our journeys. Come in and browse! CATHOLIC BIBLICAL SCHOOL OF MICHIGAN Do you wish to know more about the Bible? The Catholic Biblical School of Michigan is opening its classes here at St. Kateri! Morning and evening classes will meet on Thursdays from September to May and will study the entire Bible in four years. All faculty members hold graduate degrees in Catholic theology and they are experienced teachers and are deeply devoted to their Catholic faith. Students and staff of the Catholic Biblical School of Michigan will visit our parish during all Masses on June 3-4 to introduce this faith-filled Scripture study program to our parish. Those interested in learning more about the program are invited to attend one information night. The Catholic Biblical School of Michigan will host three information nights on Thursday June 8, July 6, and August 10 at 7 PM. Brochures for the scripture study program are found at www.cbsmich.org. CSA Online Giving Online giving helps the Archdiocese of Detroit answer our Holy Father s call to care for our Common Home. Online payments allow the CSA Office to save on postage and paper, because they eliminate the need for monthly mailings. With thousands of generous donors contributing to the CSA each year, this amounts to a considerable environmental savings, and is good stewardship. You can set up your gift or pledge online at give.aodcsa.org. Please specify your parish on the donation form. If you choose not to use the online giving portal, but would like to make your pledge payments electronically, you may call (888) 331.8695.
