ARCHDIOCESE OF DETROIT www.aod.org BOOK & GIFT SHOP Open weekends before & after Masses MOST HOLY TRINITY FROM THE PASTOR S DESK By Fr. Terry Kerner I want to thank everyone who has contributed thus far to the CSA. As of this writing (Wednesday) we are at 91% of our goal. I would hope that everyone tries to do something on this drive. Any donations over our target are returned to the parish for our use. This year we are challenged to meet the need to replace heating and air conditioning equipment in the parish hall. The effort also includes a necessary drop ceiling and new lighting. All the current equipment is at least thirty-two years old and just huffs and puff along! The average life span of most commercial equipment is around twenty years. Thanks to good and continued maintenance, and some replacement parts, we have been able to extend its lifespan, but you can only go so long before parts are not available or the repair is not cost effective. That is where we are. If you are fond of heat in the winter or cool air in the summer and may want to make a gift, separate from the CSA, give me a call. I can explain personally some of the problems we face. Regardless, thank you to all who have contributed to the parish! One parishioner who has contributed to St. Kateri so much time and expertise over several years as Chair of the Parish Finance Council is Brian Harris. The Harris family has outgrown their home in Springwells Park and are moving to Farmington Hills. With your own eyes you have seen Colin and Elizabeth serving Mass and growing a little taller each year. With mom Michele organizing the move we will be bidding goodbye to them in a few weeks. Our best to the Harris family and all they have given to St. Kateri Parish. Let them know how much they are appreciated. Deacon Tom Leonard has retired from teaching at Catholic Central and is desirous of using his new found time to minister to the parish. One special interest is visiting the sick and bringing Holy Communion. If your loved one would like him to visit, give the parish office a call and the deacon will arrange for a visit. Meanwhile we want to remind folks to renew their request to be on the sick list published weekly in the bulletin. As of July 1st we will be beginning a new list. Feel free to add your name or a loved one s. Look for the simple form in the bulletin. Enjoy summer and St. Kateri Parish! DIOCESAN PRESBYTERAL JUBILEE, 2017 JUBILARIANS 25th Anniversary Rev. FAITH FORMATION By Grace Lakatos The Holy Spirit was alive at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament this past Sunday when St. Kateri parishioners, Joan Greig and Charles Powell were confirmed by Archbishop Allen Vigneron along with approximately fifty other candidates. Joining them were five parishioners from our neighboring parishes of Sacred Heart, St. Linus, and St. Sebastian. All the newly confirmed attended our joint Adult Confirmation Classes for the past six weeks. Please keep these newly, fully initiated members of the Catholic Church in your prayers. THANK YOU ST. KATERI Dear Members of St. Kateri Parish, Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our Lenten Project at St. Sebastian. All the contributions were given to St. Vincent for Easter. We appreciate all your parish does for ours. Sincerely, St. Sebastian Parish QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS Kids were asked questions about the old and new testaments. The following statements were written by children. They have not been retouched or corrected. 1. In the first book of the Bible, Guinessis, God got tired of creating the world so he took the Sabbath off. 2. Lots wife was a pillar of salt during the day, but a ball of fire during the night. 3. Sampson was a strongman who let himself be led astray by a Jezebel like Delilah. 4. Samson slayed the Philistines with the axe of the apostles. 5. Moses died before he ever reached Canada, Then Joshua led the Hebrews in the battle of Geritol. (Continued from page 2) PARISH NEWS TRAVEL By Pat Ayland There has been a lot of interest in our AUTUMN GETAWAY trip to upstate New York. The dates are September 24-29, 2017, and we re visiting the St. Kateri Shrine, the National Baseball Hall of Fame, West Point Academy, FDR Library and museum and more. Think about getting your reservation in early. Flyers are available at the entrances to the church. Please call the church office at 336-3227 or Pat Ayland at 441.3355 with questions. JPII GIFT AND BOOK SHOP NEWS Evangelization? Missionary Disciples? What does the Archbishop mean when he has asked that we do this? Are we now expected to stand on the street corners? Buy a megaphone? These questions may come to mind as you hear and read about Archbishop Vigneron s newly released pastoral letter related to the Fall 2016 Synod. (The pastoral letter is available for download at www.unleashthegospel.org) In the future, the Archdiocese will also be providing materials related to the pastoral letter and its recommendations. However, a good place to start to learn about these topics is to read Pope Francis papal exhortation, The Joy of the Gospel. The book is easy to read and explains the Pope s vision and very practical suggestions for us as individual believers and the Church as a whole. Stop in the gift shop and browse this and other book selections. CATHOLIC BIBLICAL SCHOOL OF MICHIGAN Do you wish to know more about the Bible? The Catholic Biblical School of Michigan is opening its classes here at St. Kateri! Morning and evening classes will meet on Thursdays from September to May and will study the entire Bible in four years. Those interested in learning more about the program are invited to attend one information night. The Catholic Biblical School of Michigan will host two more information nights on Thursday July 6, and August 10 at 7 PM. Brochures for the scripture study program are found at www.cbsmich.org. CSA This year s religious jubilarians are making their milestone anniversaries with a Mass at Sacred Heart major Seminary this Saturday. The Archdiocese is blessed to have more than a thousand religious sisters, brothers, and priests who actively help the faithful encounter Christ. Your CSA gifts allow the archdiocesan Office of Clergy and Consecrated Life to connect religious communities serving in our Archdiocese while focusing on vocations and offering spiritual and intellectual opportunities such as retreats, days of reflection and workshops. Some religious communities have a significant present in southeast Michigan, which is my home to many motherhouses and regional centers. But other communities are small, and bringing them together helps in their ministry and mission. For more information go to www.aod.org. AROUND TOWN The Society of Notre Dame de Bon Secours 11th Annual Family Golf Outing is coming up on Saturday, July 15th at Fox Creek Golf Course in Livonia. Sour Golf Package provides each golfer 18 holes w/cart, door prizes and meals for only $85 per golfer. Registrations received by June 30th are only $75 per golfer. We will also have a raffle. Please join the Society in fellowship, as we enjoy a round of golf, and raise funds to help local families. For more information, please contact Carrie Ryckman at 248-890-2872 or carrieryckman@hotmail.com.
