1999 2011 Knightly News St. Mark 12553 Denton, Texas 1 Volume 12, Number 4 Serving 250 Brother Knight Families April 2011 KofC12553.org Please check out and bookmark the new council website at: www.kofc12553. org, Thank you, Bret Curran, for doing the work on getting this website up and running. Kudos to our insurance agents for creating the structure for our new website, and for the system of Farewell, Fr. Tim A big humungus thank you for all of the help, making the Farewell potluck reception for Fr. Tim on March 27th another precision exercise for the Council. We set up in about 12 seconds and I think it took all of 7 seconds to tear down including a 15 minute break. Thanks to the Chicken warriors running to get extra grub that also saved the day and we would all have been standing if it wasn t for Joe s table and chairs. Thanks to all Brother Knights!. interconnecting council websites. If you re looking for Degree programs in the area for our council or others, the website shows that. If you re looking to do business with a Brother Knight, from our council or others, the website can help facilitate that. There are too many functions on our website to talk about in a single email, so for now, I ll point out probably the most useful tool for our council immediately, which is the calendar of events. There is soooo much going on in this council that it s hard to keep it all straight. The website will be able to help all of us with that. You can read the upcoming events on the home page, or open the full-blown calendar and see what s happening there. Hope you find it useful! And many thanks to Dan Pajak, Tim Schoendorf, Odell Williams, Steve Schweiger and Don Paddack for their assistance in making this happen. Grand Knight s Corner 2 Dear Brother Knights: What to do, what to do!!!! We have had No shortage of activities this spring going on in the council and have an assortment of things on the Calendar coming up. We hosted Stations of Cross, with over 100 people in attendance. We help throw a spur of the moment farewell reception for Father Tim. We moved Father Tim across town, several of the guys repainted Father George s Office. In addition, we had back to back months with very successful Seminarian burrito sales and can collection. We also held our second blood drive of the year and will have another in May. I am hoping we triple the blood donations this next time. So, what do we have coming up you ask, let me tell you: We will be helping our Fourth degree brothers with Mother Day corsages. On May 7th a large group of 1st degree Knights will head over to Keller for there second and third degrees, we have plenty of room for anyone interested in joining us. We will be motoring down to the Baylor Gig on May 13, 2011. I already mentioned the blood drive, which will be May 15th and we will also have our Seminarian fund raisers that day. We will have the honor of feeding the Parish on Feast day May 22, 2011. We will finish of May with a giant rosary Stay and Pray avoid the Traffic. Outside the council activities are some other exciting events coming up. The biggest being the State Convention coming up the Weekend of May 13th. It s going to be right in our back yard in good old Dallas Texas. The council will be sending delegates, but if I was you I would hop on over and see what s going on. For the golfer there will be a State convention golf scramble. These and all the council s activities can be found on the new council website at http://kofc12553.org/ Check it out; we have a lot more to add, but it already will give us a much easier way to manage the council s activities. So add it to your favorites and visit it often. I will close on an Easter season reflection. Every hour of every day, there are people we know and people we don t, some are family some are not, some are friends, some are co-workers, some are sick some are healthy, some are alive and some are not, but ALL HAVE SINNED AND FALL SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD. It s time we reflect on what Easter is all about. I definitely cant throw the first stone. Remember what Jesus has done for you everyday Tim Schoendorf, Grand Knight

Cans for our Seminarians Cans thrown away in the Denton collection sure don t help our collecting cans to support our Seminarians program. We need more Knights saving cans for us. We can do a lot better than we are with a little more effort to SAVE THOSE CANS for the Knights. Can update-----on Jan. 10th, we sold 84# @ $.65 a pound for a total of $60.48. Our total for this worthy project to this date is $1,860.93. Without your keeping this out of the trash can, our seminarians would not have gotten this money, which each and every one of them appreciate. Please work harder on not throwing aluminum cans in the trash, they are wort almost 1 cent each. Thank you, Bob Beltz.

Membership Update Mark your calendars! We have at least 5 new candidates to be inducted into our Order at our next 1st Degree ceremony on May 1st at 1 PM in St.Francis Hall. Come out, show encouragement, and be there to congratulate our new brothers. And yes, there will be pizza and beer for all after the ceremony. We are still 3 short of our annual recruitment goal, with very little time remaining in the year ending 6/30. Everyone needs to think of at least one person who would make a good Knight. Invite that person to the dinner part of our next general meeting, 6:30-7:30. Also, keep a couple Form 100 s in your car glove compartment, so you ll always have one when you need one. Forms are available at each meeting, or by calling Jim Hawk at 972-841-4172. Remember our Recruit a New Knight contest, where you ll receive a K of C hat for a new recruit, you ll be formally recognized at the meeting, and for each recruit you ll receive one entry for a drawing in June for $100! Let s get some new Brothers! Do you enjoy public speaking? Become a part of our 1st Degree team. We need your help! Contact Dale Anderle (danderle@aol. com) for details. You are now allowed to read your part the first few ceremonies while you are learning, so step forward and help us grow. Past Dues Due We are frankly exhausted from our numerous attempts to get our members caught up on membership dues. The following is a breakdown of what your dues goes to and how to resolve outstanding dues: Last month, I alerted all Brother Knights the importance of paying your dues. As of today, 57 members of St. Mark Council have NOT paid their 2011 dues despite several letters and phone calls to all delinquent members. Each member who does not pay their annual $40 dues COSTS our council $23.50, this amount is taken by Supreme and State councils, whether we collect member dues or not. Here is the breakdown of how it is distributed: $2.50 per capita tax to Supreme Council $8 per capita tax to State Council $2 to Pro Life $1 Catholic Advertising $10 State Charity Fund (70% comes back to our diocese to support seminarians and deaf ministry) $23.50 X 57 = $1339.50 paid to State and Supreme whether we collect the dues or not comes out of our General Fund $16.50 X 57 = $940.50 is used to pay general Council expenses. This is NOT FAIR to the other 200+ members who faithfully pay their annual dues, as they pledged when they took their first degree. Remember: keep your dues current. If you are unable to pay your dues due to poor health or economic difficulties, a hardship waiver can be put in place so your dues can be waived. If you no longer desire to be a Knight of Columbus, then please resign and send me a resignation so we will not continue to incur this annual burden. Phil Carosone, our financial Secretarty of the Council will also be able to assist you; his email is carosone1@verizon.net Matt Di Giovanni It is with great joy and excitement that Brother Knight Matt Di Giovanni has been accepted to be a seminarian for the Diocese of Fort Worth! Matt will be starting his seminary studies this August. Please keep Matt in your prayers another seminarian from our council to learn God s plan for his life. 4
