St. James the Apostle and Our Lady of the Lake/Mount Carmel is a Roman Catholic Parish with the Eucharist as the center of its life. Our mission, as disciples of Jesus Christ, is to build up the Kingdom of God by leading, nourishing and serving the community in Word and Sacrament. FROM THE DESK of MSGR. JOSEPH MARTIN OCTOBER 8, 2017 Be All That You Can Be! Get the Message from Christian One Liners! 1. Some people are kind, polite and sweet inspirited until you sit in their pews. 2. Many folks want to serve God, but only as advisors. 3. The good Lord didn t create anything without a purpose, but mosquitoes come close. 4. When you get to your wit s end, you will find God lives there. 5. People are funny; they want the front of the bus, the middle of the road and the back of the church. 6. Opportunity may knock once, but temptation bangs on the front door. 7. If a church wants a better pastor, it only needs to pray for the one it has. 8. God Himself does not propose to judge a man until he is dead. So why should you? 9. Some minds are like concrete; thoroughly mixed up and permanently set. 10. I don t know why some people change churches; what difference does it make which one you stay home from? 11. Quit griping about church, it if was perfect, you couldn t belong. 12. Coincidence is when God chooses to remain anonymous. 13. Forbidden fruits create many jams. 14. God grades on the cross, not on the curve 15. God promises a safe landing. 16. He who angers you controls you. 17. If God is your co-pilot, swap seats! 18. The will of God never takes you to where the Grace of God will not protect you. 19. You can tell how big a person is by what it takes to discourage him. 20. Appeared on a church sign: Now open between Christmas and Easter. 21. The best mathematical equation I have ever seen: 1 cross + 3 nails = 4 given. 22. Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it is learning to dance in the rain. Readings for this Week 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time First Reading: Isaiah 5:1-7: This passage about the failure of the Lord s vineyard is a metaphor for the ingratitude of the people of Israel and Judah. Second Reading: Philippians 4:6-9: In an appeal to the Philippians, Paul exhorts them to embrace all that is pure, decent, and admirable; then God s peace will be theirs. Gospel: Matthew 21:33-43: In another rebuke to the chief priests and the elders, Jesus recounts a parable in which the owner of a vineyard leases his vineyard to tenant farmers. Readings for Next Week First Reading: Isaiah 25:6-10a: This passage describes the new Jerusalem as a heavenly banquet on the mountain with the Lord God wiping away all tears. Second Reading: Philippians 4:12-14, 19-20: Paul thanks the Philippians for alleviating his hardships. He stresses that he is as accustomed to poverty and finds all his strength in Christ. Gospel: Matthew 22:1-14: Speaking to the chief priests and the elders, Jesus relates the parable of the wedding banquet. Jesus warns the elders, the invited are many, the elect are few.

If you have questions or have been thinking of purchasing a niche, call Donna McCarthy at 845-225-2079 Ext. 105, on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday to schedule an appointment. For those of you not familiar with a Columbarium, it is a Latin word, which describes a collection of niches to house urns containing, cremated human remains. The niches are usually inscribed with the person s name and dates of birth and death. They are constructed to serve as permanent resting places for our loved ones in a churchyard and landscaped terrace. We pray that this holy ground becomes a final resting place for many of our loved ones. Interested in becoming an Altar Server? This fall, we will be starting a training session for new Altar Servers. If you have entered 4 th Grade and have received your First Holy Communion, you are eligible to become an Altar Server. Please keep your eye on our weekly bulletin for more information as the fall approaches. If you are interested please come to the Parish Office and ask for a Welcome Packet, which includes an application form. Please complete the application and return it to the parish office. All interested candidates will be notified by email when the training dates are scheduled.

Visit www.kennedycatholic.org or call 914-232-5061. We are Courageous, We are Compassionate, We are Kennedy Catholic! A Message from the Executive Director of Emmanuel House The electrical fire in our building at the end of February caused substantial damage to the structure, requiring its demolition and leaving us homeless! High winds and torrential rains caused the tarps to be pulled away from over where the roof had been removed. We had to discard most of our furniture, donated clothing, baby items/supplies/equipment, books and videos! Needless to say, we need your help now to reopen! In addition to needing the deposit and 1 st month s rent, we also need to replace everything that was lost in the fire and storms. During the last six months I have been working out of my car and using my cell phone but it has not been enough. Our goal has always been to make sure Moms and Moms-to-Be (and Dads and Dads-to-Be) have the resources they need to take care of their babies and their families in a loving, healthy and supportive home. We had to pull back the amount of help we could offer. Without a place for our families to come to, their Little Ones lose out the most and we just don t want that to happen. We need to find a new home as soon as possible to correct this situation. In order for us to secure a new home, we need to pull together an emergency fund quickly and for that we need your help! We need a place where Moms-to-Be can get the help they need to Choose Life, where moms and their Little Ones can get what they need for a quality of life they deserve a place where every baby, child and parent is safe and well cared for having Chosen Life! Many who come to Emmanuel House are in crisis due to unplanned pregnancies and are in great need of help your help. They need to get out of crisis and on their feet! Be their Guardian Angel! Donate your time, talents and treasures and you will make a difference! Donate NOW to Emmanuel House and you can make sure our Families have a loving and supportive haven to come to so that each of their Little Ones is well cared for and nurtured. Thank you in advance for whatever you can do! God Bless You! Rita McSweeney O Brien, 914-393-7208.
