Did they witness their father praying? Could they tell faith made a difference in their father s daily life? We know mothers play a vital part in their children s lives. I think we have often thought and rightly so that mothers have a great impact on the spiritual life of their children. However, these surveys really challenge fathers to take seriously the role of passing on the Catholic faith to their children. That is what fathers and mothers promise to do at the baptism of their child. Now we know how important it is for mothers and fathers to work in tandem to instill the Catholic beliefs in their children. I would also mention that I believe grandfathers and grandmothers can also do a great deal to support, guide and encourage the spiritual development of their grandchildren too. So I would ask you as Knights of Columbus as Catholic gentlemen how well are you doing to nurture the faith development of the next generation? Children are entrusted to your care. What kind of a daily witness are you giving to the importance of the faith and Catholic values in your life? (Please turn to page 5) Keep the Following in Your Prayers! Please Pray for : The unborn and all those we promised to pray for Peace and unity for our country. Right to Life. PRO-LIFE MEDITATIONS ON THE MYSTERIES OF THE ROSARY By Fr. Frank Pavone (priestsforrlife.org) Glorious Mysteries The Resurrection Our Lady, Queen of all Saints, we pray that Our Lord will bless and take to heaven the souls of the slaughtered unborn infants, that after their terrible suffering, they may see the wondrous face of your Son there awaiting them. The Ascension As we follow the example of Our Lord each day, we hear His words: "Know that I am with you always, even to the end of the world." We pray that we will always have the courage to be disciples of Jesus and show His love for all people by standing here in defense of life. We pray that all mothers feel the presence and strength of Our Lord each day. The Descent of the Holy Spirit Give us strength and courage, O Holy Spirit, to follow the example of the apostles. Though they were fearful, You filled them with faith and courage. Jesus, through Mary, the Spouse of the Holy Spirit, we pray for a New Pentecost today, that all mothers will be filled with the fire of Your love and the faith to accept Your Will. The Assumption Most chaste and gentle Mother, be always our model for purity and humility. Mary, most pure and gentle virgin, let us desire only the will of the Father. Help us not to seek rewards on this earth, for Heaven is the greatest reward. We seek only to dwell in the House of the Lord all the days of our life. The Coronation Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth, we pray that all will come to honor your request to make daily reparation for the sin of abortion which so greatly offends your Immaculate Heart and the Sacred Heart of your Divine Son. ) Grand Knight s Report Brother Knights, With the arrival of May, the thought occurs to me that I only have another month as Grand Knight. As I reflect on the past couple of years, I am amazed at this council. There is so much good work done for the Sun Prairie community and for our parishes. My heartfelt thanks to all who donate their time, and talent, to our council. Our charitable activities shine as a clear example of the vision established by the Knights of Columbus founder, Fr. Michael McGivney. Our council hosted an Admission (1 st ) Degree on April 18 at The Round Table. We welcomed 6 new members to our council that night. There are several more men who are ready to join, but could not make it on the 18 th. Our membership efforts are paying off and achieving Star Council recognition is a real possibility. My sincere thanks to all you helped with the recent St. Albert s membership drive, and especially to the men on the Admission Degree Team. They all put in a ton of hours on other KC activities yet are willing to come make the ceremony to join the Knights a special occasion. We are holding the annual People With Intellectual Disabilities (P.W.I.D, aka tootsie roll) drive on May 5 7. This is a great event that supports Special Olympics and the Special Education programs at Sacred Hearts School and the Sun Prairie Area School District. Bring you children with you to make it a family service activity. Please use the Sign-Up Genius link in the email from David Foelker. Or contact David at dfoelker@charter.net, (608) 228-4602. Don t forget to get your baseball tickets. The annual Mallard s / Women s Care Center fundraiser tailgate and baseball game will take place on August 12, 2017 with a 6:35 pm game time. Once again our council purchased 20 tickets. Tickets cost $13/each, which includes the tailgate, and admission to the game. Please contact me (608-318-1679, grandknight@kofcsunprairie.org) if you would like to purchase tickets to the game. (continued on page 4)

Council News & Events Plan for this Tax Day and into the Future April 15 (tax day) is right around the corner. It s become popular this time of year to encourage the opening of an IRA or similar retirement plan, or the depositing of additional funds into an existing account, as a tax-savings vehicle. Or perhaps someone has tried to convince you to open an account, touting the rate of interest that money in one of these accounts can earn. There are many good reasons for doing the above, and many financial institutions are saying the same thing right now. But why not go with the Knights? Certainly, contributing money to a KC account will allow you to save some money on your income tax return. And our plans do pay a very competitive interest rate, consistent with our primary goal of absolute safety of principal. Opening or adding to an account for these reasons, however, strikes me as taking a short-term view of a product that is designed to provide long-term security. How much security? How does retirement income that you cannot outlive guaranteed sound to you? Here at the Knights of Columbus, you can open a plan for as little as $300. Funds can be moved from existing accounts, often for no cost. Consistent and disciplined savings placed into that K of C product over time can guarantee you an income at retirement that you cannot outlive. That guarantee along with the fact that no one has ever lost money left in a KC plan (remember absolute safety of principal) really will provide you with peace of mind. And you can also be assured that the Knights will invest with the highest moral and ethical standards in the industry. Your funds will never find their way into morally objectionable programs, or support areas that are in contrast to the teachings of the Church. I am happy to meet with you at your convenience and in your home to explain in detail the benefits of opening a Knights of Columbus account, along with the benefits of our top-rated life insurance, disability income and long-term care insurance plans. Chaplain s Corner-Continued As we continue to celebrate the Easter Season, it is a good time to renew our commitment to the Mass, devotions, the rosary, the teachings of the Catholic Church and all the treasures our faith offers. Our faith has so much. If we are to be good witnesses for Jesus, it all begins with prayer. As one saint has said, We should have frequent recourse to prayer, and persevere a long time in it. God wishes to be solicited. He is not weary of hearing us. The treasure of his graces is infinite. Blessed Easter Season, Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt Council News & Events Cont. Council News & Events Cont. MAY HOPE Because love is filled with hope when it is communicated, our family wants to promote hope and the life-giving spirit that flows from it to our families. Meditation From Pope Benedict XVI s Spe Salvi Whoever is moved by love begins to perceive what life really is. He begins to perceive the meaning of the word of hope that we encountered in the Baptismal Rite: from faith I await eternal life the true life which, whole and unthreatened, in all its fullness, is simply life. Jesus, who said that he had come so that we might have life and have it in its fullness, in abundance (cf. Jn 10:10), has also explained to us what life means: this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent (Jn 17:3). Life in its true sense is not something we have exclusively in or from ourselves: it is a relationship. And life in its totality is a relationship with him who is the source of life. If we are in relation with him who does not die, who is Life itself and Love itself, then we are in life. Then we live. 1. How would our family life be different if we did not love at all? How would this affect our sense of hope? 2. In what ways has the Catholic faith and God s love shown us how to love? In what way does the faith shape our hopes? Why is having a relationship with God so important to really living and hoping? Scripture Reading - Psalm 139:13-18 A prayer to the all-knowing and ever-present God You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother s womb. I praise you, because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are your works! My very self you know. My bones are not hidden from you, When I was being made in secret, fashioned in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw me unformed; in your book all are written down; my days were shaped, before one came to be. How precious to me are your designs, O God; how vast the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the sands; when I complete them, still you are with me. Family Project Ask each person to choose something impossible to pray for this month, and choose one person in your family to pray for every day during the month. Also, to celebrate the life-giving spirit of your family, discuss times in your family s life when you grew together in faith or love. Discuss moments of your relationship, courtship, engagement and wedding celebrations that helped you grow as a couple. Share stories of your children s births, and discuss the gift that each of their lives has been to your family. Gather photos or various mementos of these events for a scrapbook or memory box that your family can cherish, or consider compiling them into a slideshow that can be shared with relatives.
