27th Sunday In Ordinary Time Page 2 Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time October 8, 2017 Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Philippians 4:6 BEARING THE RIGHT KIND OF FRUIT Today s readings focus our attention on vineyards. Isaiah s song concerning his friend s vineyard begins with inspiring and poetic images of an idyllic vineyard where the choicest harvest is expected. Instead, the vineyard yields wild grapes, which causes the owner to abandon it. The psalmist cries out to God, asking that God once again take care of the vineyard, which is the house of Israel. The parable told in today s Gospel offers a stern warning that those who commit treachery in the hopes of attaining personal wealth will be put... to a wretched death (Matthew 21:41). Jesus warns his listeners not to act like the murderous tenants in the vineyard. Instead he exhorts them to produce the kind of fruit that will lead them to the kingdom of God. Copyright J. S. 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 4 LIFE IS A JOURNEY TOWARD PERFECTION There is a short article by an anonymous author entitled "What is Christianity" which says: "In home it is kindness; in business it is honesty; in society it is courtesy; in work it is justice; toward the unfortunate it is pity; toward the weak it is help; toward the wicked it is resistance; toward the fortunate it is congratulations; toward the penitent it is forgiveness; toward God it is reverence and love." To be true Christians, we should always bear fruits of good works in daily life as we do in Church should not be split from our day-to-day dealings and conduct. When we come to Mass each week, we not only come to give thanks to God for what we have been given, but we also come to join each other as the Body of Christ. We come to celebrate, but also come to bring our hurt, our struggles, our pain, at times even our unbelief, and offer it along with Jesus as the sacrifice. The gospel of this Sunday reminds us of the importance of listening to God`s Word and responding to His call to serve Him. God speaks to us in many ways - through Scripture, through our Church tradition, in our Church`s teachings. Jesus encourages us to respond generously to His words and teachings and to bear fruits of holiness. We listen attentively to the Word of God, awaiting God to touch our hearts and minds with some insight. We want to be inspired by God, identifying some aspect of our lives that can be changed, and obtain an understanding of how to change. Our life here on earth is a journey. As St. Teresa of Avila, our patroness saint, stated: "Our life should be looked at as a journey toward perfection." God continues to reveal Himself to us, as He sees fit, in an attempt to help us to spiritually grow. This month of October is dedicated to our Blessed Mother, the month of the Holy Rosary. Let us continue to pray this simple devotion. Grace begins when in humility and trust we turn to God and ask our Blessed Heavenly Mother just to embrace us. "Let nothing disturb you; Let nothing frighten you; All things are passing away; God never changes; Patience obtains all things; Whoever has God lacks nothing; God alone suffices". (St Teresa of Avila) God bless you! Fr. Innocent SAVE THE DATE

Copyright J. S. We assist the needy with a variety of requests for help. Some of our clients are dependent on social services, while others just need some temporary assistance to make ends meet. We recently received a very special request from a father who is a refugee from Honduras. Through an interpreter, we learned that the client had fled his country after receiving death threats and witnessing the murder of his son s mother by local insurgents. He rode a train referred to as the beast the length of Mexico to get to the USA. The trip took him 3 days and he was robbed of all his possessions during the train ride. He then made his way north and is now staying in the RHA shelter here in Auburn. He has no possessions and wants to find work and then send for his son. The Request: The client informed us that he needs to travel to the Honduran Embassy in Los Angeles to obtain a passport in order to legally work in California. The Response: SVDP financed his train ride to LA and the passport fees so he can seek legal employment and ultimately leave the shelter. Hopefully, in time, he will be reunited with his son and they For more information & Tickets visit: Www.livefromauburn.com Or call Sarah 415-816-1121 Or Suzie 916-847-4934 can start a new life together.
