SERMON A Tale of Two Seas Rev. Lynne Kammeraad HYMN Glorify Thy Name No. 9 OFFERTORY Fill This Land with The Father s Glory Medley DOXOLOGY No. 815 My Country, Tis of Thee No. 807 Our fathers God, to Thee, author of liberty, to Thee we sing: Long may our land be bright with freedom s holy light; protect us by Thy might, Great God, our King! BENEDICTION POSTLUDE God of Our Fathers Warren ROMANS 8:12-17 (NRSV) So then, brothers and sisters, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh for if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, Abba! Father! it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. CONGREGATION PLEASE STAND (AS YOU ARE ABLE) Assisted Hearing devices and large print hymnals and bulletins are available for use during services. Please contact an usher if you would like to use one of these. 3

WE HAVE GATHERED AS A FAMILY OF FAITH Trinity Sunday * Memorial Day Weekend May 27, 2018 9:15 a.m. The Church at Litchfield Park, aspiring to be as inclusive as the love of God, welcomes everyone who comes to the doors of this House of Prayer for all People. CHIMES PRELUDE Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Howe BRINGING IN THE LIGHT POSTING OF THE COLORS The United States Naval Sea Cadets Corps Veterans Pride Battalion CHORAL CALL TO WORSHIP God Bless America Irving Berlin WELCOME, REGISTRATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS NEW MEMBERS Eliza Cadavona Greg & Marcy Clement Jess Duncan Timothy Gleason Tom & Donna Shepherd CALL TO WORSHIP Romans 8:1-6: L: There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. P: For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and of death. L: For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. P: By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and to deal with sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, so that the just requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. L: For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. P: To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. HYMN Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty No. 3 (Verses 1-3) 4

PRAYER OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY (In Unison) God of Grace, you call us to set our mind on the Spirit, but the things of the flesh distract us, and so we come here to be strengthened. God of vision, you hold before us an alternate way of life, different priorities, different loyalties, and different values. But we know that the distractions of the flesh are powerful, and so we are drawn in to following its priorities, accepting its values, showing loyalty to it, and caving to its desires. God who blesses those who are filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, forgive us when we lose sight of these qualities, and we misunderstand their role in the world. God of mercy, help us to live according to the Spirit. L: Let us now pray together the prayer that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ taught us: P: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
