OUR MISSION STATEMENT: Growing In Faith Together (G.I.F.T.) Dear Parishioners, While we celebrate the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple this weekend, the rest of the US might be focused on groundhogs personally, I really hope he does not see his shadow forecasting a closer Spring. With all the sub-zero weather, the snow days, etc., Spring is looking better and better. That type of anticipation is only a glimpse of the anticipation of Simeon and Anna in the Gospel according to Luke for this weekend s readings. They spent their lives in prayer and preparation for the Lord s coming, and when they saw Him, even at the tender age of 40 days from birth, they recognized Him with joy. We know that the Lord has come, but at times we have not kept the joy that is ours, given to us by His coming, His life, Death, and Resurrection. We allow other things to take our attention from what is most important. Some time ago, the Vatican News Office released a request that people be careful about what news sources they are using for the latest with the Catholic Church or Pope Francis. This came after a satirical website posted an article that went viral about Pope Francis making major changes to Church teaching after the Third Vatican Council there has been no council, of course, and the teaching is outside the realm of possibility, as well. It is a good warning, especially as we witness the Pope s popularity expanding to the point of his being on the cover of Rolling Stone. What is not helpful is that they are getting their information from biased sources, and perpetuating errors and biases. I am glad to see that Pope Francis is winning the hearts of so many, but I fear it is for the wrong reason. As Pope Francis himself might remind us, he is a sinner in need of a savior, and he sees his role as helping others find and fall in love with Christ, leaving behind all that binds them in sin. In Christ, Fr. Todd J.
