Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 2 Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 16, 2018 The Lord G is my help, therefore I am not disgraced. Isaiah 50:7 LISTENING AND RESPONDING There are three interwoven themes in today s readings: listening to God, faith vs. good works, and losing our life in order to find it. How are they related? The Suffering Servant of Isaiah undergoes much distress and ridicule, but is able to bear it because he has listened to the promptings of God day after day. The psalm tells us that God listens, too. God hears our prayers for help and is always ready to save us. As our faith deepens, so does our desire to do the works of justice and charity that build up the reign of God. God directs our actions in ways we often cannot see, and we don t always see the results. We are called upon in faith to trust that what we do is enough, and that willingness to listen to God s promptings will lead us in the right way. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 4 WHO DO YOU SAY THAT I AM? This question, originally asked by Jesus to His Apostles, is asked to us too. To know Him leads to follow and serve Him. To be a follower of Jesus Christ means to be engaged, active followers. Passivity and Discipleship are contradictory. James in his letter from today`s Mass, says it differently, but means the same: Faith without works is dead. "Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works." ( James 2:18) From that letter of St. James we are challenged to have a living faith, a faith backed up by actions. This is a concept which has been debated ever since Jesus invited us to be His disciples. Is our faith enough to save us, or must we do more? James certainly thinks we need to do more. James is making reference to something termed by most theologians as "living faith". That kind of faith is exemplified by being an active participant in building the Kingdom of God. It is more than attending Mass and praying. It is the kind of faith to which we are called through stewardship. Our faith community and our Parish is filled with ministries and ways that we can serve and reach out to serve our Lord in loving and serving His people. God knows who and what we are. For some of us, prayer and a complete trusting faith are most likely enough. However, James is trying to let us know that if we can, we need to look for more. We need to find ways to live out our faith as stewards of our many gifts and blessings. Let us be not just hearers of His Word, but doers of His Word. The world needs it. Jesus demands it. Giggle: The story is told of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson on a camping trip. As they lay sleeping one night, Holmes woke Watson and said: " Watson, look up into the sky and tell me what you see." Watson said: "I see millions of stars". Holmes asked: "And what does that tell you?" Watson, showing that he was very smart, replied: "Astronomically, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Theologically, it tells me that God is great and that we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically, it tells me that we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. And what does it tell you? " Holmes calmly answered : "Someone stole our tent." God bless you and have a wonderful week! Fr. Innocent ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

For more information & Tickets visit: Www.livefromauburn.com Or call Sarah 415-816-1121 Or Suzie 916-847-4934 De esta Tradición o Evangelio oral nacen tradiciones teológicas, disciplinares, litúrgicas o devocionales para diversas escuelas espirituales o grupos étnicos y nacionales.
