we had a blast at our annual Epiphany celebration! thank you to everyone who made it happen, especially Maria Barontini! A Parish Family of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston Parish Clergy Office hours: Stay connected: Our Mission Welcome! Are you new?

A letter from our Pastor Dear Friends in Christ, In 1976, Laurel Thatcher Ulrich published an academic paper on the role of women in the literature of Protestant ministers in the 17th and 18th centuries. In this obscure article, she wrote: Well-behaved women seldom make history. Somehow this observation went viral, becoming an iconic, and iconoclastic, slogan for radical feminism. In our own day, radical feminism, and its ideological cousins, has totally transformed relationships between men and women, and the way women perceive themselves and their roles in family and society. For many today, history is made by women who have liberated themselves from any commonly accepted gender role and identity, and who embrace contraception, abortion and sexual license as signs of their freedom. St John Paul II knew that there were some grains of truth even in radical feminism, which is why his encyclical, Mulieris dignitatem of 1988, sought to clarify what authentic feminism in the light of the Gospel looks like. The supreme irony of our times is that, nowadays, the well-behaved woman is expected to work outside the home, be a crusader for anti-life activities, defy sexual mores and denigrate marriage or even stable relationships. Even many Christian women who do not always feel comfortable with the feminist agenda are awfully quiet and submissive when it comes to other women who will not think twice about loudly and rashly making fun of those who do not conform to the brave, new world where gender is fluid, sex is free and equality is the paramount virtue. The priestesses of tolerance have become some of the most intolerant people on the planet! This week the Church celebrates the Feast of St Agnes and we also commemorate the sad juridical catastrophe of Roe vs. Wade, in which the American government proclaimed it legal to directly attack innocent human life in the womb. I think that the time has come for Catholic women to stop behaving nicely according to the sterile conformism of today. St Agnes was a young noble woman who knew her faith and was sure of her vocation in life. She bravely stood up for herself, for her purity and for her faith and for her calling, and is celebrated still today for her heroic sacrifice. She did need a man to validate her, and she had no reason to lose herself in the excesses of the pagans surrounding her. She remains a model for healthy self-image, religious practice and authentic womanhood. She shows that virginity is not a path to powerlessness, but a calling to divine joy. Maybe our Catholic women, in not being afraid to reject deviations from what is true good and beautiful, can be makers of history by acting up and acting out by embracing the counter-cultural spiritual practices of our Catholic faith. I am continually amazed by our young Catholic women who show this in various ways: by learning about their faith and living the liturgical year in the domestic church, by choosing to veil as a sign of their recognition of their own sacred character as life-givers and life-bearers, by engaging others in social media and interpersonal relationships to bear witness to the power of the Gospel, and by not settling for second best in a mate, but waiting and watching for truly godly men to share the sacramental life of marriage with. They are truly inspiring, and I know that St Agnes will be accompanied in heaven by numerous women of faith who were courageous enough to turn away from the ephemeral and cling to the eternal. 1 Church 2 Christ the King Adoration Chapel 3 PAC (Parish Activity Center) & PAC Classroom 4 Guadalupe Hall 5 School & School Offices (Lourdes Hall) 6 & 7 Parish House, under the protection of Our Lady of Fatima 8 KofC Building 9 Pope Francis House 10 Walsingham Hall Parking Lots 11, 12, 13 and 14
