Dear Parishioners, A NOTE FROM FATHER This weekend, we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord, in which we remember that Jesus was baptized in a symbolic bath by John the Baptist. In accepting this baptism, He is identifying Himself with the rest of humanity, even as His Heavenly Father identifies Him as His Beloved Son. The Church Fathers, in reflecting on the importance of this act, remind us that in accepting this baptism of repentance, which Jesus was not in need of, Jesus makes clean the waters of the world that then have power to transform and redeem us. He sets the model for us, and gives us Baptism as a means of grace and forgiveness. With this feast, we liturgically end the Christmas season (though some cultures, like the Polish, continue to celebrate Christmas until the Feast of the Presentation on February 2). We enter Ordinary time - the time to grow and incorporate what we have just celebrated - The birth of Jesus Christ and His revelation as fully God and fully man. This time before Lent which begins March 6th can be a time of profound growth and holiness as we ask the Lord to reveal the Father s love for us. ~ In Christ, Fr. Todd JOHN IRELAND/LITTLE ANGELS NEWS We are a Catholic community welcoming students of all faiths, devoted to Gospel Values, Academic Excellence, and Christian Service. www.churchofstpeter.org/ji 507.931.2810 Our Superkids program in action! Up-coming Faith Formation Calendar Catholic Schools Week National Catholic Schools Week is the week of January 27 through February 2. In conjunction with that significant event, Bishop John M. Growing Together in a Stewardship Stewardship of Service Next time you come to Church, get there a little early and look around. Note all of the details: -The Hymnals are arranged nicely in their racks. -A bulletin has been prepared. -Flowers are around the altar along with appropriate banners and altar decorations. Many of the banners are handmade. -As you walked in you were greeted by ushers. -During Mass you see the choir, altar servers, sacristan, lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. Sometimes you see RCIA people and the children s Faith Formation teachers. -You see Father and a sometimes Deacon Tony who have spent the past week preparing their sermon for your Mass. There are a number of feasts, and especially around Christmas and Easter, they seem to come in quick succession. Each feast has its own decorations, flowers and music. Each feast day has its lectors, sacristans, ushers, greeters, altar servers and choir. Why is all this work being done? Who is doing all this work? You might just say a little prayer of thanks to all of those many, many people who are using and growing their own special God given talents. Catholic Watchmen Gathering The Catholic Watchmen is a movement calling men to be protectors, providers and leaders of their families and parishes. Through regular gatherings, men will come together to join in this mission to protect their families through dinner, fellowship, learning, and prayer. Our next gathering will be on January 28th from 6:30-8:30pm. Father Todd will be speaking about being a Catholic man following the example of St. John. All men of our parish are invited to the event. Mark your calendar: May 6th will be the final gathering this year. The Baptism of the Lord 5
