A NOTE FROM FATHER Dear Parishioners, Our Lenten journey has begun. This Lent could be one of great significance, but only if we are intentional about it. How can we open ourselves up more to the Lord? How can we hear His voice more clearly? How can we love Him and others? These are the questions that we can seek this Lent. We can seek to let go of past grudges and areas of un-forgiveness. If we have hurt others, we can seek reconciliation. We might fast, refraining from food, or at least comfort foods and drinks, that we may hunger for the Lord. By committing ourselves to prayer, whether it is through reading Scripture with Lectio Divina, the Rosary or Chaplet of Divine Mercy, or Liturgy of the Hours, we take time for the Lord and we might grow accustomed to how He speaks. Through examining our almsgiving, whether it be time, talent, or treasure, we might challenge ourselves to trust that the lord will provide what we need. There are so many other ways we might open up to the Lord. Whatever we do and however we do it, this is the time that the Lord has prepared for us. If we do, as we gather for the great celebration of the Resurrection, our hearts will be able receive Him. ~In Christ, Fr. Todd JOHN IRELAND/LITTLE ANGELS NEWS We are a Catholic community welcoming students of all faiths, devoted to Gospel Values, Academic Excellence, and Christian Service. www.churchofstpeter.org/ji 507.931.2810 We are a school readiness program focused on faith and service which nurtures the whole child embracing individual talents and abilities in a welcoming, caring, and safe environment. 1st Sunday of Lent 3

SPAF provides emergency food assistance to persons within the area of the St. Peter School District and all of Nicollet County not served by other food shelves. In 2018 we served 2,699 households made up of 9,732 individuals distributed 261,888 pounds of food and non-edible necessities. In March, your donations of food items and money earn us for purchasing credits at Second Harvest in St. Paul, of which SPAF is a member. All of your donations remain with our local foodshelf, but the weight tallies and dollar amount are established for SPAF. Cash/checks can be mailed to SPAF 201B S. Third Street, St. Peter, MN 56082. Growing Together in a Stewardship Prayer is an act of stewardship. Prayer can be silence. We need God s help in order to pray. You can take an idea from the Gospel and turn it over in your mind. How does that thought apply to me? Try to see what God is saying to me. Prayer can be devotion. In prayer we meet the One who made us and knows us perfectly, the One who neither deceives nor can be deceived, and the Father who loves us infinitely more than we love ourselves. Prayer is being in the presence of God. Prayer in Church or with the whole church (liturgy) and out of Church in your daily life (devotions) are important, as it helps us quench our thirst for God (Catechism 2560). The Lord invites us and draws us to Himself in prayer, which is more than an intimate communication. He desires a true dialogue with us, and when we open ourselves to Him, we come a live. One way the Lord continues to speak to us is through the Sacred Scriptures, and when we prayerfully read the Scriptures, we hear Him speaking. One means of praying the Scripture is Lectio Divina. We will address the steps during the next few weeks. 1st Sunday of Lent 5
