The Harvest is Abundant but the Laborers are few What do you bring when you pack for a trip? Perhaps you make a checklist for: wallet, credit cards, cash, passport, toiletries, towels, hanging bag, food, clothes, laptop, toys for the kids and more clothes! Today Jesus sends out his followers out and a trip and instructs to bring nothing! The setting is that Jesus had already sent out the Twelve Apostles and was now sending an additional 72. The mission? To evangelize the world! Why were they not allowed to bring normal items for a trip? It was to show a total reliance on God they were not to bring even necessities. -No money bag to show that God will provide. -No sack as a reminder to live simply. -No sandals so as to live like the poor. -Greet no one along the way stay focused This allowed them to see that the work belongs to God. We are his messengers but He is the one changing the world. It is interesting to note that they were sent in pairs. We are not Lone Rangers. We need support and community. Do you have a prayer partner and someone who calls you to be accountable in the spiritual journey? Jesus also notes that the harvest is abundant people are ready and hungry for the Word of God! However, the laborers are few who is committed? By virtue of our baptism we are made evangelists. Let us pray how to simplify our lives and rely more on the power of God. Let us pray for the grace to be evangelists and to let our light shine brightly before others. Come Lord Jesus! -Fr. Tim McKeown Have a safe and happy 4th! Don t forget that the Parish Office will be closed Monday.

DID YOU KNOW? The Hospitallers were a Catholic religious order founded to in 1113 to care for sick pilgrims in the holy land. They followed the rules of St. Augustine and were devoted to St John the Baptist. They were the Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem. Their massive hospital in Jerusalem with surgeons and physicians was considered a world class western medical facility with a capacity of 2,000 beds. Patients were admitted regardless of race or religion. They also attended to the injured in the field of battle. A Knights of Columbus fact. A View from the Pew Questions and Answers (from Parish Council June 13): Times for confession are difficult for those parishioners who go to the 11:00 mass. Is it possible to have an additional time, perhaps once a month in the evening? Yes, we will offer some Wed. evening Confessions in July. A parish email address so that people could address their concerns and get a timely response without overloading the priest s personal emails. Please send to the Parish Secretary, Ann Buebel at annbuebel@bellsouth.net More activities and pictures on the website. We will look at adding a picture gallery to the website. How does a person find a spiritual advisor? A good idea to find someone who is a spiritual person who is 10-15 years older that could function as a spiritual mentor. Make the cry room more child friendly by adding a couple of rocking chairs and putting carpet on the floor. To make room, can this area be expanded by incorporating the storage room behind it, once used for the Religious Articles shop? We will begin working on this in July. The bulletin notes that the Chapel is open for meditation from 9:00am to 4:00pm, but many people are finding it locked when they try to go. Please go to the main office for the key to the Chapel.
