ARCHDIOCESE OF DETROIT www.aod.org BOOK & GIFT SHOP Open weekends before & after Masses FROM THE PASTOR S DESK by Fr. Terry Kerner In these final weeks of the Lenten season we can take stock on how we might be growing in our Faith and how we have tried to nourish it. Lent can be a time of letting go of many thoughts, feelings and habits. Hopefully, this has been true for you. While we can try to make strides improving our spiritual life we need always realize how totally God s salvitic action is needed. In other words, growing in grace and love only happens because Christ has intervened to make it happen. With this Holy Week why not consider participating and enjoying with parishioners all the liturgies and socials that will be celebrated. Please keep the schedule of Holy Week close at hand. Each year St. Kateri parish honors a young adult parishioner with the Christ our Light award. The award recognizes a person whose spirituality and faith has led them to serve the Church and parish in meaningful ways. The honor is celebrated on Holy Saturday with the carrying into church the blessed Easter candle. From the Easter candle all worshipers in church light their candle for the beginning of the Easter Vigil. The recipient of the Christ our Light award can light the way for many a young adult in the ways of Faith and service to our community. Our 2018 Christ our Light recipient is Ms. Nina Cataldo. Nina began her service to the parish back in 3rd grade when she began serving Mass-a ministry she continued through 12th grade. In her high school years she served on the St. Joseph Parish Council as the youth representative until her Senior year. That same year, as a student at Divine Child high school, she was chosen by her peers to represent them in crowning the Blessed Mother at the school s May Crowning. After graduation Nina attended the University of Michigan and graduated with a double major in Spanish and Communications. During her years at U of M she found the time to teach religious education in Ann Arbor-a ministry she continues now at St. Kateri. Nina works at Quicken Loans in the human resources department finding time to also serve on our Parish Pastoral Council as well as volunteering at various church events including her ministry as a Eucharistic Minister. Our St. Kateri Parish Congratulates Nina Cataldo for being a Light of Christ to all whom she serves.

PALM SUNDAY It was during the fourth century in Jerusalem that Christians first started using palm branches in commemoration of Jesus' entrance into Jerusalem. Today, we continue to use palms in most churches on this Sunday, Catholic and Protestant alike. It is one of those traditions of worship that, no matter how far apart we may seem at times, we continue to share due to our common heritage. But Palm Sunday is also known as Passion Sunday, because we hear an account of the passion of Jesus Christ during the liturgy. Most churches also share this reading in common. Many Catholic parishes use multiple lectors to proclaim the Gospel, while it is not uncommon for a similar reading or even a performance in many mainstream Protestant churches. The commonality found in the worship on this particular Sunday seems to highlight the fundamental truth in the observance: Jesus Christ died for everyone. He did not die on a cross for just Catholics, or just Orthodox, or just Protestants. Whether one acknowledges it or not, he was crucified for all those who are born of man. Today, we rejoice not just for what he has done for us but also for what he has done for all of creation.
