He writes: "Let us see how St. Luke encompassed the eight blessings in the four. We know that there are four cardinal virtues: temperance, justice, prudence and fortitude. One who is poor in spirit is not greedy. One who weeps is not proud but is submissive and tranquil. One who mourns is humble. One who is just does not deny what he knows is given jointly to all for us. One who is merciful gives away his own goods. One who bestows his own goods does not seek another's, nor does he contrive a trap for his neighbor. These virtues are interwoven and interlinked, so that one who has one may be seen to have several, and a single virtue befits the saints. Where virtue abounds, the reward too abounds... Thus temperance has purity of heart and spirit, justice has compassion, patience has peace, and endurance has gentleness." (Exposition of the Gospel of Luke 5.62 63, 68). Please help by donating non-perishable food, along with personal and household items. Monetary donations are also always appreciated. Parish Office The Holy Cross Parish Office will be closed on Monday, February 18th in observance of President's Day. Holy Cross Rumson Educational Foundation Meeting Holy Cross School parents and alumni, parishioners, and interested members of the community are invited to attend an informational/organizational meeting regarding the Holy Cross Rumson Educational Foundation at Wednesday, February 20, at 7:30 PM, in the Holy Cross School Library. Organizers will share their preliminary vision for the organization, solicit ideas and questions, and present opportunities for involvement, including volunteering, committees, Board membership, in-kind assistance, and more. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization created to promote and support Catholic education in Rumson and surrounding areas. Its three initial objectives are to establish a grant fund to underwrite significant emergent operational and instructional purchases that might otherwise go unfunded; establish an endowment to provide a long-term income stream for significant expenditures and capital improvements; and put in place a structure to conduct future major capital campaigns. It will be governed by a Board of Trustees that will work closely with Holy Cross School s Principal, and Director of Development and Grants, in developing the legal and financial structures, and in identifying potential Board members, volunteers, and donors. If you have any questions, we encourage you to attend this important meeting, and invite you to reach out to Holy Cross School s Director of Development and Grants, Peter Lyden, 732-842-0348 ext. 1268 or via email at plyden@holycrossrumson.org. Holy Cross Men s Group The Holy Cross Men's Group provides opportunities for spiritual and personal growth, service and outreach to the Holy Cross Parish Community, and social interaction for adult men of the parish. The group meets on Thursday evenings, in the St. Joseph Meeting Room. New Members are welcome! Join us on Thursday, February 21, at 7:30 PM. AA Meetings We are happy to announce that there is an AA Open Discussion Meeting every Wednesday evening at 8:00 PM, in the St. Joseph Room of Holy Cross Church. Do not be depressed. Do not let your weakness make you impatient. Instead, let the serenity of your spirit shine through your face. Let the joy of your mind burst forth. Let words of thanks break from your lips. Saint Peter Damian (1007-1072)
