Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of The Lord April 1, 2018 Happy Easter, Notes From The Pastor's Pen As we celebrate the Easter Vigil we bless and light a new Easter Candle for the coming year. Coming into the Church at the vigil we share that light with all the people who each have a candle, and the light spreads and lights up the dark church. As we go through the Easter season we will be having the Easter candle lit at all of our Masses to remind us of the season that we are in, to remind us of Christ s resurrection, and to remind us of our continuous need to follow him. We may not light the Easter candle for all Masses throughout the year, but we don t just leave Easter for a single season. Every Sunday is a celebration of Easter, of Christ risen from the dead, of His love and sacrifice for us that we may share with him in eternal life. And as all good celebrations, they are not meant to be solitary. They are only magnified the more that are involved. At the Easter Vigil we represented this as we spread the light from the Easter Candle to the candles of all of those present to light up the church. So our weekly Sunday celebrations throughout the year are only made more joyful by each additional person present. We may not each have a candle and light it from the Easter candle at each Sunday, but we are still each called to carry the light of our baptism. The more people we have present each week truly does make our celebrations brighter, the presence of Christ more obvious. And that light isn t meant to just stay in the Church. Hopefully we take the light of Christ in our hearts, let it be rekindled each week, and take it out to others to help the whole world to find and follow Christ. Peace and Joy, May the Joy of Easter be with you today, and every day. Fr. Arribas PROCLAIM THE RISEN CHRIST On Easter morning everything the spring weather, the flowers, birds and butterflies, the people around us in their finery, the beautiful liturgy and music everything seems to bear witness that Jesus Christ is risen today! Like the eyewitness accounts in today s scriptures, the glorious and joyful life all around us helps us to believe the good news of the Resurrection and sing Alleluia! In the scriptures today we hear from Peter and Paul and John. All three speak with conviction about witnessing the resurrected Christ. John s Gospel account includes Mary of Magdala, who also was privileged to witness the Resurrection and tell others the good news. On this glorious Easter Sunday can we ourselves give eyewitness accounts that Jesus Christ is risen today, alive and active in our lives? Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. Parish School of Religion Update Alleluia, Jesus has risen! Easter is just too big to be contained in one day or one week, so over the next 50 days the Church will be celebrating Easter. The priests and deacons will be wearing white vestments, we will return to saying Alleluia, and the first readings will only be from Acts of the Apostles. The book of Acts of the Apostles is all about the actions of the Apostles during the first days of the Church. In the eighth grade they began their study of Church History with the Acts of the Apostles. The events of the first days of the Church are exciting and help all of us to see the roots of our Catholic heritage. Enjoy the next 50 days of celebration for because of Easter we too will see resurrection! See everyone back next week at PSR.
