PAGE 2 Bishop Flaget Flyer VOLUME 17, ISSUE 7 Brother Knights, Grand Knight s Letter Congratulations to Richard Hines and a heartfelt thank you for the dedicated service he has made for our Catholic Community. Not only as our past Grand Knight but also his Service on our Parish Council and his dedication to our church ministries. Truly a Catholic Gentleman that we can all say showed his love for Jesus Christ in his service to our faith community. As Knights our mission is "in service to One, in service, to all". Richard lived those principles and made us all better because of his dedicated service. Our guiding principles are what we do as Knights so let's remember that Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism are our purpose and as your Grand Knight I commit to you all that is what I will strive to do, as Richard and our previous Grand Knights have done before him. This month let's focus on our guiding principal of Charity. Charity Our Catholic faith teaches us to Love thy neighbor as thyself. As Members of the Knights of Columbus we show our love for our neighbors by conducting food drives for Dare to Care and donating the food to local soup kitchens and food pantries, by volunteering at the Special Olympics softball toss, and by supporting, both spiritually and materially, praying for mothers who choose life for their babies. As Knights we recognize that our mission, and our faith in God, compels us to action. So I will ask you all to find areas that you can support to live out our call to action. There is no better way to experience love and compassion than by helping those in need, a call we as Knights answer every day. So I will be asking each of you to consider how and where you can support our cause for Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism over the next several years. I have several ideas to help strengthen our numbers and participation in our council that I will share in the coming months. Remember Charity is not just your support financially, but your support with your time, talents and treasures to others. July Birthdays Mark Darrow 3rd Mark Dallas 6th Rev. VOLUME 17, ISSUE 7 Bishop Flaget Flyer PAGE 3 Update Your Beneficiaries Sometimes it is easy to overlook the simplest of things. Take, for example, the beneficiaries on your life insurance policies. If your policy was applied for and issued several years ago, it may very well be that the person you originally selected as the beneficiary is no longer the person you would want to receive the policy proceeds. If you bought the policy when you were single, for example, you may have named your parents as beneficiaries. If you have since married, your policies should be updated to reflect your spouse as beneficiary. Maybe you ve had children since, who are not named on the policies. Most people list a primary beneficiary, who is specifically designated as the first in priority to receive policy proceeds. We also encourage the naming of a contingent beneficiary, an alternate person designated to receive policy proceeds, usually in the event that the original beneficiary pre-deceases the insured. I routinely call all of my policyholders for annual review appointments, usually near the anniversary date of your policy that is, the date it was originally issued. One of the matters that I ll discuss during this review is the status of your beneficiary designations. If they need updating, and they often do, I can complete the paperwork during that appointment. I look forward to meeting with each of you to discuss your family s current needs and long term security. Dwight Frank, Field Agent Knights of Columbus 502-802-8490 Dwight.Frank@kofc.org

PAGE 4 Bishop Flaget Flyer VOLUME 17, ISSUE 7 THE PRECIOUS BLOOD The Catholic Church dedicates the month of July to the Precious Blood of Jesus, which was "shed for the many, for the remission of sins. The Feast of the Precious Blood was established by Pope Pius IX in 1849, and is celebrated each year on the first Sunday of July. In addition to the Sacred Heart and the Precious Blood, there are devotions to the Five Wounds (in Christ's hands, feet, and side); to the shoulder wound, where Christ carried the Cross; and to the wounds caused by the crown of thorns, to name just a few. These devotions provide us with an opportunity to be a living witness to our belief in the Incarnation of Jesus Christ. Our Savior is not an abstraction; He is God-Made-Man. It's an awesome thought: Our physical nature is united to God through the Person of Jesus Christ. When we venerate Christ's Precious Blood we are worshiping the One True God Who so loved the world that He gave His Only Begotten Son to save us from everlasting death. Christ's Precious Blood, is a symbol of His love for all mankind. In the following prayer to the Eternal Father we should see a similarity with the Divine Mercy Chaplet reminding us that Christ shed His Blood for our salvation. We in turn should join in Christ s sacrifice by offering to God the Father the Precious Blood of Christ. In this prayer, we are reminded that repentance for our sins goes hand in hand with the struggles of the whole Church and concern for the souls in Purgatory. Prayer to the Eternal Father Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ in atonement for my sins, and in supplication for the holy souls in purgatory and for the needs of holy Church. Amen ST ALBERT PICNIC Please send my gratitude to the following Brothers who assisted in working the Beat the Dealer booth at the St. Albert picnic on June 16th and 17th. Ed Miller, Mike Welch, Lonnie Brown, and Mark Darrow provided their time and new found gambling talent. I filled the balance of workers with family and friends. This was a very active booth and we stayed busy the majority of the time. Thanks, Mike Hord ASCENSION PICNIC Fr. Steve, Terry Luckett and Mike Lally would like to extend their thanks to Ed Miller, Dick Scherrer, Jerry Talaga, Bob Wuetcher and Jim Spalding (Assumption Council) for helping with the Food Tent at the Ascension Picnic on Saturday June 3rd. It was a perfect evening for a picnic so we had a great crowd. The number of volunteers was smaller than the past years but everyone stayed extra long on their shifts and busted their butts to make it work. Deadline for for submissions for for the the August May newsletter is is April July 2, 21, 2016 2017
