(If you know of any other brother knight or their families that are in need of prayers, please contact Mike Lally by phone at 742-3624 or e-mail at cardfan71@yahoo.com) The Knights of Columbus has been following the events unfolding in Ukraine. Pope Francis said: I assure the Ukrainian people of my closeness and pray for the victims of the violence, for their families, and for the injured. I urge all parties to cease every form of violence and to pursue harmony and peace throughout the country. In solidarity with our Holy Father, and with the Catholic Bishops and Church in Ukraine, the Knights of Columbus is asking all of our members around the world to pray the Prayer of St. Francis that there may be a renewed dialogue and respect and a peaceful resolution to the situation in Ukraine. Prayer of St. Francis Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled, as to console; To be understood, as to understand; To be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

PAGE 2 Bishop Flaget Flyer VOLUME 14, ISSUE 7 Grand Knight s Letter Brother Knights, We have finished another successful year as a Council in the Knights of Columbus serving parishes in our area. What a great year we had! With well over 50 events, we certainly are fulfilling the vision of Fr. McGivney! A big thanks goes to all of our brother Knights, but especially to our Corps of Officers, who are there at most every event. Thanks to Mike Saylor, Norm Beat and Jerry Talaga who are going off the Officer Corps. These men served you well. Thanks brothers! In 2014-15, we have the chance to repeat many of our historical events, such as serving at Church picnics, bike night and Indian Summer Camp. If you have not helped in awhile, please do so. Your Council needs you. Finally, please consider attending some of our meetings. We seem to have a great speaker lined up for every meeting. Here is a preview... July - Haiti Oncology program August - Passionist priest September - Catholic Charities October - Metro United Way There is a world out there that needs your help. Please come and learn about the need. My best to you and your family. VOLUME 14, ISSUE 7 Bishop Flaget Flyer Insurance Matters What is your Plan? PAGE 3 Some Thought-Provoking Long Term Care Statistics 2011 MetLife Study of Caregiving Costs to Working Caregivers: Double Jeopardy for Baby Boomers Caring for Their Parents Key Findings The percentage of adult children providing personal care and/or financial assistance to a parent has more than tripled over the past 15 years. Currently, a quarter of adult children, mainly Baby Boomers, provide these types of care to a parent. The total estimated aggregate lost wages, pension, and Social Security benefits of these caregivers of parents is nearly $3 Trillion. For women, the total individual amount of lost wages due to leaving the labor force early because of caregiving responsibilities equals $142,693.00. The estimated impact of caregiving on lost Social Security benefits is $131,351.00 A very conservative estimated impact on pensions is approximately $50,000.00. Thus, in total, the cost impact of caregiving on the individual female caregiver in terms of lost wages and Social Security benefits equals $324,044.00. For men, the total individual amount of lost wages due to leaving the labor force early because of caregiving responsibilities equals $89,107.00. The estimated impact of caregiving on lost Social Security benefits is $144,600.00. Adding in a conservative estimate of the impact on pensions at $50,000.00, the total impact equals $283,716.00 for men, or $303,880.00 for the average male or female caregiver 50+ who cares for a parent. Overall, caregiving sons and daughters provide comparable care in many respects, but daughters are more likely to provide basic care and sons are more likely to provide financial assistance. Adult children 50+ who work and provide care to a parent are more likely to have fair or poor health than those who do not provide care to their parents. KofC Long Term Care insurance has a number of available options including Shared Care, Inflation Protection, and Lifetime Benefits allowing you to customize your protection to your specific needs and budget. Consider these benefits of a KofC Long Term Care Policy: Retaining independence and dignity Protecting the healthy spouse Asset protection Removal of the care-giving burden from family members Peace of mind Remember you cannot just buy Long Term Care insurance; you must qualify for it. You qualify for it today with your good health. Safe, Secure; there is no more highly rated Insurer in North America than your Knights of Columbus. William T. Moriarity, FA, FICF, Maj, USAF (Ret.) The Precious Blood, like the Sacred Heart of Jesus, has long been venerated for its role in our redemption. Christ's Precious Blood, like His Sacred Heart, is a symbol of His love for all mankind. In this prayer, we recall the shedding of His Blood and ask that He may guide our lives so that we may be worthy of Heaven. Lord Jesus Christ, who came down from heaven to earth from the bosom of the Father, and did shed Your Precious Blood for the remission of our sins: we humbly beseech You, that in the day of judgment we may deserve to hear, standing at Thy right hand: "Come, ye blessed." Who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Deadline for submissions for the August newsletter is July 25, 2014
