Hill EPHESIANS 2:4-10 (NIV) But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. September 2, 2012 WE HAVE GATHERED AS A FAMILY OF FAITH Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost Communion Sunday 9:15 a.m. The Church at Litchfield Park, aspiring to be as inclusive as the love of God, welcomes everyone who comes to the doors of this House of Prayer for all People. CHIMES WELCOME, REGISTRATION and ANNOUNCEMENTS PRELUDE Balm in Gilead arr. Robin Rokey BRINGING IN THE LIGHT CALL TO WORSHIP: L: We gather today on this Labor Day weekend to worship God and to remember those who work to make our lives better. P: We especially want to remember the labor of our Savior Jesus Christ whose work has provided us with life eternal. L: Let us not forget, it was through Christ s work that we were reconciled to God and now God calls each one of us to labor to reconcile all people in the name of Christ. P: May the work of Christ manifest itself in our good works toward others. Amen. HYMN More Love to Thee No. 634 CONFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY Loving and merciful God, we confess that it is not by our righteous works but by the work of Christ that you have redeemed us to yourself. We further acknowledge that our good works are not a way to gain your favor, but a natural response to your love. Free us, we pray, from the archaic concepts of pleasing and appeasing you to the joy of working in your kingdom to show our gratitude for your goodness to us. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray, amen. SPECIAL MUSIC O Rest in the Lord from Elijah by Mendelssohn Mary Meese 4
