Word from the Grand Knight Brother Knights; Let me first wish you all a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year! I also hope each of you had a Christmas filled with joy in celebration of the miracle of Christ s birth. Although our council did not hold any meetings during December, many of our Brother Knights were involved in projects assisting our parish and school. Knights prepared and served pancakes, bacon, and sausage to the children during the school s annual Breakfast/Brunch with Santa. The school really appreciates the effort that we as knights put into this event--- thank you all who came out and participated. While not in December, by the time this letter is published, our council also arranged a Twelfth Night celebration for our parish on January 6th. Our council planned, provided food and beverages, set up, and (most importantly) cleaned up this very successful and enjoyable event. Again, thank you to all who donated their time and talents to make this evening both enjoyable and memorable. 2018 was a very active and successful year for Council 1487, and I m certain that 2019 will prove to be busy as well for our council. On the immediate agenda, we will be hosting a spaghetti dinner on January 27th immediately following the 11:15 Mass in order to help kick off Catholic Schools Week. As always, any help is appreciated-- please contact John Tierney, or me. On a final note, we have several men who have expressed interest in joining our council. Since we will be holding a 1st degree exemplification in the near future, I would like to invite any other men who would like to learn more about the KofC, our council, and our activities to contact myself or one of our members. If you re looking a join a great group of guys committed to service, you simply cannot do any better than our council. Yours respectfully, For those who are not yet Knights Brian Listerman Grand Knight (606)694-7595 Listerman1@yahoo.com Pre-membership news and data are available at kofc.org/joinus. Invite any Catholic man you know to investigate the KofC there. Please keep in your prayers for healing and aid Tom Adams, Bill Fisher, Ed Hund, James L. Leggett, Richard C. McComis, & Lloyd (Sam) C. Insurance News Ask Eligible Men to Join Today, I* want to address the growth of the Order. Membership growth is the fuel that keeps this great fraternal engine running. All of our charitable works at the council, state, national and international level are thanks to our hard-working members. And more members equals more charity. We know that the membership blitz is a tried and true way for councils to get more men to join. We see these pushes often in March, in celebration of Founder s Day, and again in October. These drives are successful because brother Knights have increased visibility speaking or presenting during and after Masses and at special events. We must remember that we have a duty to ask each and every Catholic gentleman to join our ranks for the good of the Church, the community and the Order. During the rest of the year, we often forget to ask men to join and to bring their families into the Knights of Columbus family. You probably know an eligible Catholic man you could ask today. What if the only reason he hasn t joined is because no one has asked him yet? When telling a prospect about the strengths of the Order, don t forget our greatest fraternal benefit: our insurance program. This is often a selling point to a potential member who is on the fence. Many members become Knights simply to be able to buy coverage to protect their family. Soon after, they realize the good our charitable works do for their community, and they are proud to be members. As your professional Knights of Columbus insurance agent, I* look forward to helping us grow in fraternity in any way that I* can.
