ARCHDIOCESE OF DETROIT www.aod.org BOOK & GIFT SHOP Open weekends before & after Masses 5TH SUNDAY OF EASTER FROM THE PASTOR S DESK By Fr. Terry Kerner In just a few weeks we will be celebrating Pentecost on the weekend of May 19/20. I invite everyone to wear RED-the liturgical color for the Feast. Pentecost will be an especially memorable day for two women who formally became members of the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil this year. Marie Webb, baptized in the Methodist tradition as a child chose later in her life to become Catholic and made her Profession of Faith in the Catholic Faith. She has become a proud member of St. Kateri Parish. Chelsea Piatek, in her early twenties, decided it was time to join the rest of her family in practicing the Faith and was baptized at the Vigil Mass. On Pentecost Sunday they will be Confirmed in the Faith by Archbishop Vigneron at the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. Our prayerful best wishes go to these women and their families. May they always know they have a home here at St. Kateri. On Pentecost, in the first reading at Mass we will hear from Acts 2:1-11 the tale of the apostles and their Confirmation when the Holy Spirit descended upon them in tongues of fire. And as the account testifies:...they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. I would like parishioners to speak in their own native and inherited language one of the petitions in the Prayer of the Faithful. This can be a beautiful way to proclaim your faith in the language that perhaps you first learned. Consider giving us a call at the Parish Office or filling out the information found in today s bulletin. We don t have to wait until Pentecost to applaud one lady filled with God s Spirit. This Sunday, April 29th, Nicoleta Uicker, a longtime parishioner will receive the St. Timothy Award. The award recalls the significance of St. Paul s encouragement to young Timothy to be engaged in his Faith regardless of his age. You will recognize Nicoleta as a Server and Eucharistic Minister at Mass over the years. She has also been a faithful Family Faith aide and is enthusiastically pursuing a certificate as a Catechist. She has generously been involved in several outreach programs both in St. Kateri and in school. Currently a Senior at Divine Child High School, she plans to pursue her studies in dental hygiene. Congratulations to Nicoleta and her family for this much deserved recognition. As you know the statue of St. Martha appears at the south entrance of the Parish Center. Engraved memorial pavers commemorating deceased loved ones and honoring parishioners form a walkway leading to the statue. Scores of the pavers were transferred from St. Martha church and several more were added over the last few years. Currently a few spaces remain blank and are waiting to be engraved. For information on how you could memorialize friends and family with a paver, just give the parish office a call. This can be a compassionate and thoughtful gift to someone. Have a good Spring week finally!

Page 2 FAITH FORMATION by Grace Lakatos This weekend brings to completion another year of Faith Formation classes for the children of our parish. They have opened our hearts and our eyes to our faith as we hope we have done the same for them. Building issues, scheduling challenges and more than one round of the flu did not deter their attendance nor diminish the sparks in eyes and the love of the Lord in their hearts. Also coming to completion is our RCIA program. This past year, the directors from Sacred Heart, St. Albert the Great, St. Sebastian and St. Kateri have had the honor and privilege to accompany an amazing group of adults on their journey into the Catholic Faith. As we have answered their questions and shared the stories of our faith, they have ignited in each of us a brighter flame and a deeper thirst for ourselves. Thank you for allowing us to share this journey with you. Each of you will be in our hearts and our prayers forever more. A special and personal thanks to Marie Webb and Chelsea Piatek both are of you are amazing women and I am so much richer for knowing you. Next weekend, Sunday May 6th at the 11 AM Mass we will be celebrating First Eucharist with Wilson Greig and Sonny Schneider. Also joining them will be Sonny s cousin, Sebastian Palmeri from St. Justin Catholic Church in Hazel Park. During this celebration of the Eucharist, we will also honor Mary our mother with our parish s tradition of May Crowning. We invite all of you to attend such a wonderful commitment of faith by these young boys and ask you to keep them in your prayers. Confirmation Preparation classes will meet on Monday, May 7th at 6 PM. RCIA will have a Send-off Celebration on Wednesday, May 2nd at 7 PM in the St. Francis room. Adult Confirmation class will meet Thursday, May 3rd at 7 PM in the St. Michael s room. PARISH NEWS ST.
