August 28, 2016 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Fr. Brian Bell, Pastor Faith Formation News Page 3 Greetings from the Diocese of Phoenix We are pleased to announce that a Fourth Edition of Bishop Olmsted s Catholics in the Public Square booklet is being published and released this fall to assist Catholics in making well informed faithful decisions as they prepare for the 2016 election. The official release date will be Saturday, September 17, 2016 in conjunction with the Legislative Seminar being held at the Diocesan Pastoral Center that morning. We are once again able to offer free copies of the booklet to parishes and encourage that they be distributed to the faithful on a weekend in September or October. Scripture Verse: "Do not recline at table in the place of honor. A more distinguished guest than you may have been invited...and the host who invited both of you may approach you and say, 'Give your place to this man,' and then you would proceed with embarrassment to take the lowest place." - Lk 14:8bc, 9Excerpts from the Lectionary for Mass 2001, 1998, 1970 CCD. Middle School Youth! Come and join us for the following Edge Events at St. Bernard's: 9/12 - "Back to the Beach" (Monday from 6pm to 7:30pm in the Parish Hall) - This is our Edge Fall kick-off event! The Parishioners of St. Bernard of Clairvaux have been most generous in supporting SvDP with donations of cash, food, clothing and presents, most notably at Christmas time. All you have to do for the favor is take a little of your time and vote for the article on SVdP described next. The Phoenix Business Journal is sponsoring a contest for the best article on charitable organizations. The article about SVdP features the story of Andrea Bocelli singing the Ave Maria at an SVdP event and the touching description of the generosity of the lady in the pink coat. The story can be found at the first website below. If SVdP receives the most votes by August 31, it will win $10,000. Residents of Arizona are eligible to vote. Although, you can vote for three articles, we ask that you vote only for the SVdP article at the second website below. We hope that you will take a few minutes and vote before August 31. We thank you for all that you do to help us help others.
