PAGE 2 Bishop Flaget Flyer VOL 7, ISSUE 4 Grand Knight s Letter As we see Lent coming to a close, Our Lord dying to forgive our sins. We are preparing to start anew as we celebrate the Glorious Easter Season. It is a time of Life. The weather is changing; its warmer outside, the flowers, trees and grass are all growing, birds singing. It is a time of Celebration; the Easter Season lasts for 50 days. Our Lord conquered death; we need to take time to appreciate Jesus Christ s Love for us, our new beginning, and our new life. Speaking of Easter, our normal Business meeting was scheduled for Holy Week; we have postponed the meeting by 1 week. New meeting date is Tuesday April 10, Rosary at 6:30, meeting at 7. I invite all Brothers of Bishop Flaget Council to participate in our busy spring programs and if you haven t been to a meeting lately, come and get reacquainted with the Brother Knights. Meetings are normally one hour and fellowship follows each meeting. Some programs upcoming include Supporting our Troops, Special Olympics, Bike Nights starting again, Alter server awards. They learned the Knight s lessons of Unity and Fraternity. Welcome to our newest Brother Knight Dean Egler from St Patrick Parish and Chester Pysz who transferred in from Nashville, Tennessee. Bike Repair Night is Back Our Council will kick off the 2007 Bike Repair Night beginning Thursday April 19, 2007. Grand Knight Dale Anderson has again offered the use of his garage and tools. Plan on meeting at Dale s at 7PM. We need help with picking up and returning bikes to the Wayside Christian Mission. Please contact Bob Rucinski at either 292-2550 or 551-7761 for further information. SOKY Area 4 Spring Games On Saturday May 12 (rain or shine) we will again be Venue Directors for the Softball Ball Throw, at Special Olympics Area 4 Spring Games. This is our 4 th year helping SOKY with Track and Field events. A lot of help is needed, I have again asked other Louisville Councils to be involved, due to the amount of help needed. Last year we had 60 volunteers, this year I would like to equal this support. We need help with registration, escorts and many field positions from ball markers, measurers, staging, scorekeepers and ball chasers. This is a GREAT time to bring the family, be a great role model for your children and have quality fellowship time with brother Knights from around the Louisville area! If we have enough volunteers we can support other areas needing help, lunches and other Track and Field events. Our normal event times are from 9am to 1pm, last year many of us stayed and offered support to the Athletes for the afternoon events. This is a family friendly event. Please call or email GK Dale to volunteer, 493-1065 d_anderson54@bellsouth.net

PAGE 4 Bishop Flaget Flyer VOL 7, ISSUE 4 Fourth Degree Exemplification Time is fast running out if you would like to participate in the Patriotic Degree and become a Sir Knight in the Knights of Columbus. There is a Saturday Banquet and Mass and the ceremony will be on Sunday Morning. You will learn a lot more about the Knights in this beautiful ceremony. This is a great time to participate, the degree will be held at Assumption Council on April 14 and 15th. For more details and a application form please contact GK & SK Dale Anderson While they were eating, Jesus took the bread, said the blessing, broke it and giving it to his disciples said, Take and eat: this is my body. Then he took a cup, gave thanks and gave it to them saying, Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which will shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, from now on I shall not drink this fruit of the vine until the day when I drink A Lenten Message it with you in the kingdom of my Father. {Matthew 26:26-29) Jesus calls us (not simply invites) those at the table to take and eat the bread, and take and drink the cup. These same words are part of all of the Eucharistic prayers at every Mass. World Day of Prayer for Vocations Annually on the Fourth Sunday of Easter, The Holy Father calls for all faithful to gather in prayer for vocations, Sunday April 29th This year the Knights of Columbus celebrates the 125th anniversary of Father McGivney founding our Order. One good way to show Solidarity with Our Priests is to support Vocations by praying for priests as well as to religious life. Please give Special Effort on this day in this worthy and vital endeavor. I also urge you to continue to support our Spiritual Bouquet program as well. We have pledged prayer to all the priests and deacons in the Arch Diocese. At this years Clergy Appreciation Dinner a Bouquet of paper flowers were distributed to 9 area Louisville councils, each promising to support our local clergy with prayer. We will continue this program throughout the year. Deadline for submissions for the May Newsletter April 20, 2007 Please forward any changes in address, phone number or e-mail address to Mike Lally 742-3624 or cardfan71@yahoo.com
