Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me! BENEDICTION POSTLUDE May the Road Rise to Meet You Turner MARK 10:17-27 (NIV) As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. Good teacher, he asked, what must I do to inherit eternal life? Why do you call me good? Jesus answered. No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments: You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother. Teacher, he declared, all these I have kept since I was a boy. Jesus looked at him and loved him. One thing you lack, he said. Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me. At this the man s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth. Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God. The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, Who then can be saved? Jesus looked at them and said, With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God. CONGREGATION PLEASE STAND (AS YOU ARE ABLE) Assisted Hearing devices and large print hymnals and bulletins are available for use during services. Please contact an usher if you would like to use one of these. 3

WE HAVE GATHERED AS A FAMILY OF FAITH Twenty-first Sunday after Pentecost October 14, 2018 9:15 a.m. The Church at Litchfield Park, aspiring to be as inclusive as the love of God, welcomes everyone who comes to the doors of this House of Prayer for all People. CHIMES A Charge to Keep I Have Mason Carillon Handbell Choir PRELUDE Fanfare on Ein Feste Burg arr. Pethel BRINGING IN THE LIGHT WELCOME, REGISTRATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS CALL TO WORSHIP L: Dear Friends of God and sisters and brothers in Jesus Christ, welcome to this historic House of Prayer for All People. P: We have come today to worship God and to open our hearts to allow God to direct our lives in love. L: Trusting God more should be the goal of each of us; learning that God s love will bring us inner peace and the satisfaction of sharing in the work of God on earth. P: We thank you, God, for all of your many blessings and for calling us to live in your eternal kingdom, beginning now. HYMN All Creatures of Our God and King No. 63 (Verses 1-3) PRAYER OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY (In Unison) Gracious Lord, when we analyze the world around us, we can clearly see that those who have money seem to control all things. In the face of this, it is difficult to place our trust in you instead of wealth. Help us to trust you more, and in doing so, use the resources you ve entrusted us with as a means to further your kingdom. 4

L: Let us now pray together the prayer that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ taught us: P: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. MUSICAL PRESENTATION Tis a Gift to Be Simple Shaker melody Carillon Handbell Choir arr. GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP TODAY Learning to live again after the death of a loved one or friend is oftentimes very difficult. We all grieve in different ways: some focus primarily on the emotions, others try to avoid grief altogether, and some want to read their way through it. Leanne Walgren and Pastor Lynne hope to walk with you as you travel through your grief. We want to join you on the path to healing by offering a grief support group continuing today from 11:45-12:45 in the Fireside Room North. We will meet for four more weeks on the following dates: October 21, & 28, November 11 & 18. We are using a compassionate resource called Traveling Through Grief: Learning to Live Again After the Death of a Loved One as a guide to help you find your road to recovery. If you do not already have a copy of this book, copies will be available free of charge on the first day we gather. If you have any questions please call the church office at (623) 935-3411 or speak with Leanne or Pastor Lynne. ADULT BIBLE STUDY Bible study resumes Tuesday, October 16, at 10:00 a.m. and Wednesday, October 17, at 6:30 p.m. in Souers Hall. For the next eight weeks, we will be studying a number of passages in scripture that focus on Paul s ministry, which includes exploring several locations in Turkey where he visited, ministered, and influenced (Attalia, Perga, Pisidia Antioch, Colossae, Aphrodisias, Ephesus, Priene, Didyma and Miletus). Please read Acts 9:1-19; 22:3-21; 26:9-18 and Galatians 1:13-17 prior to our time together if possible since there will be a number of other references we will be focusing on while we are together. Yes, this will include a lot of pictures from Turkey! As always, it would be helpful to bring a Bible and something to write with if you are able to. SUNDAY SCHOOL OPPORTUNITY We are in need of some help for our Sunday School classrooms (K-2 nd graders; 3 rd -5 th graders) during both the 9:15 and 10:45 a.m. services. Pastor Kerri delivers the message in Souers Hall to begin each class. Then, teachers walk the children to the classrooms where activities are set up and ready to go. There are youth to assist teachers as well. It is minimal work and maximum blessing! Please consider this imperative ministry to our children. If you would like to help, please contact Pastor Kerri. 4C (Children s Christian Community Choir) 4C, (Kindergarten-5 th grade), resumes rehearsals this Wednesday, October 17, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Fireside Room North.
