Second Sunday of Advent Page 2 Second Sunday of Advent December 9, 2018 God has commanded that every lofty mountain be made low. Baruch 5:7 AWAITING THE SALVATION OF GOD The world does not seem big enough to contain the jubilation of the first reading. In the Gospel reading, the Roman empire isn t big enough, either. The great powers of Rome are named and made to stand waiting for the arrival of God s salvation. And we find Paul meditating joyfully on what really matters. According to Baruch, the city of Jerusalem is like a person standing on tiptoe looking for God s salvation, which is coming from the east. Those who were led away on foot, heads down, now come back, a proud people. Why, the very way is smoothed out. The path is lined with fragrant, lush trees. It can t get any better than this, can it? Well, yes, it can. For a voice calls out in the desert. Here is the beginning of the salvation of God. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. Second Sunday of Advent Page PREPARE THE WAY OF THE LORD On the second Sunday of Advent, we meet John the Baptist, the great and last prophet of the Old Testament who serves to remind us to prepare the way of the Lord. We will hear these words often during Advent as we prepare the way of the Lord in our lives to celebrate Christmas and Jesus coming again in glory. Advent is a time to let God continue to do good work in you until the day of its completion. We are reminded in Baruch this week that we are remembered by God. Some have been led away by the enemy but Baruch says, God will bring them back. God s light will lead the way and as we prepare the way of the Lord this Advent season, let us be challenged to live our lives by the vision and values of Jesus. When we fall short, God s love is always ready to pick up and offer us mercy and forgiveness. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is God s gift to us. God is surely the God of surprises. His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts. He came to live among us once and forever. He became the center of history and nothing or no one can change that reality. We should always prepare a way in our hearts for Jesus so that we may receive Him as our saving God. Peace, Fr. Innocent Maramatha, Come Lord Jesus. Amen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Giggle: A soap manufacturer and a pastor were walking together down a street in a large city. The soap man casually said, The gospel you preach hasn t done much good, has it? Just observe. There is still a lot of wickedness in the world and a lot of wicked people too! The pastor made no reply until they passed a dirty little child making mud pies in the gutter. Seizing the opportunity, the Pastor said, I see that soap hasn t done much good in the world either, for there is much dirt still here and many dirty people around. The soap man said, Oh well, soap only works when it is applied. The pastor said, Exactly! So it is with the gospel. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OUR FAMILY Congratulations and blessings to the family of Hudson David Dinucci who was baptized last week. Please pray for those who have passed through death into new life with Christ, especially Della Bracket.

Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.
