CHIMES WELCOME, REGISTRATION and ANNOUNCEMENTS PRELUDE Because He Lives Gaither BRINGING IN THE LIGHT CALL TO WORSHIP: L: We gather today, on this Independence Day weekend, in gratitude to God and in celebration of our freedom. P: We are thankful to God for the freedoms we enjoy and for the opportunity to worship God as we feel led to do so. L: Let us be mindful of the responsibilities that come with freedom and that call us not merely to live how we want but to live a life which honors God and serves our fellow citizens. P: We choose to live righteous lives and to glorify God by making our families, our communities, and our world better places. Amen. HYMN My Country, Tis of Thee No. 807 (Verses 1 & 4) CONFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY Prayer of Confession: (In Unison) Lord, we thank you for our country and for the freedoms we have been given, the opportunities in life to achieve many things, and the ability to follow a path of our choosing. We pray that freedom will continue to spread and encompass more and more of our fellow citizens. We ask that those who are impoverished would be given the ability to rise out of their circumstances; that the opportunities of education would spread to all of our children; and that violence and hatred would dissipate as your kingdom comes on earth as it is in heaven. In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen. ANTHEM God Bless America Irving Berlin Sue Kujawski, soloist 4
