FROM THE PASTOR S DESK By Father Terry Kerner By the end of this week all registered households of St. Kateri Parish will have received their annual Directory. It lists all who were on our parish membership list as of last December, 2017. Keep it handy as an easy way of keeping in touch with your fellow parishioners. An interesting note to our parish listing is that it includes thirty zip codes from twenty one cities across southeast Michigan. Your warmth and hospitality must be a magnet for folks! Thank you for making St. Kateri a welcoming parish. There is no cost to the Parish for the Directory. Like our annual parish calendar sponsored by the Hackett Metcalf Funeral Home, all costs are covered this year by Park Place Caterers, United Churches Credit Union and Howe- Peterson. We are most grateful for their support and generosity. Our parish can also be grateful and proud for our support of the Simply Give Program sponsored last November and December by the Allen Park Meijer store for local food pantries. In collaboration with St. Sebastian parishioners, $17,260 was earned for their pantry. We rejoice with them and appreciate their weekly efforts to feed the hungry and under-nourished of our community. I have been told by St. Sebastian folks that St. Kateri has been consistently the most generous of local parishes in collecting food for the pantry. It is good to share our blessings! Next Saturday is the Feast of St. Blaise, the third century Armenian bishop known for saving a young boy from choking to death. The traditional blessing used on the feast invokes God s protection from any ailment to the throat that we might have. We might also want to ask the Lord s blessing on our speech and the words we use. At each Mass this weekend we will offer a general blessing after Holy communion to all present. Receive it in good health and celebrate the proper language to proclaim it! (May your blessed throat be a fitting instrument for cheering on your favorite team this Sunday s night!) Have a great week!

Page 2 PARISH NEWS FAITH FORMATION by Grace LAKATOS ADULT CONFIRMATION CLASSES: Have you received Baptism and Eucharist but not Confirmation? A 6 week course preparing adults for Confirmation will begin following the celebration of Easter. The one night a week programs meets at St. Kateri and is open to all Catholics wishing to complete this Sacrament. If you or someone you know wishes more information, please contact the Faith Formation Director in the parish office. PLANNING YOUR CHILD S BAPTISM: The birth & baptism of a child is an exciting time for parents, grandparents, family, friends and your parish community. The planning begins with calling me in our parish office. I will assist you with the choice of godparents, scheduling of your preparation class and the celebration of the Sacrament, and the paperwork. CLASSES: Sacramental Preparation classes will meet next on Monday, February 5th at 6 PM. Faith Formation classes will meet Saturday, February 17th beginning with the 4 PM Mass. SCHOOL BELLS St. Sebastian: Box Tops for Education & Coke Caps: We continue to collect these items for our general education, computer ad library and physical education program. Please continue to collect and drop them in our Sunday collection basket. JPII GIFT AND BOOK SHOP NEWS By Pat Urban & Barb Cataldo Thanks to those who picked up house blessing kits these past few weeks. We were overwhelmed by the response about 250 kits were distributed. Let us know of your experience at home. It is always helpful to get your suggestions and feedback. Your donations were used to buy the supplies and needs of the parish. There are still some kits left if you were unable to pick one up. The house blessing can be done at any time of the year. We have more Blessed Solanus Casey items available. The Solanus Casey Guild, which supplies us, had received over 2,000 orders after the Beatification Mass. They were backlogged but have since been able to fill our order. We have books, pocket coins, statues, and key chains. There is a beautifully written comic book about Blessed Solanus for children. Come in and browse. Just a reminder: The Saint Kateri canonization commemorative coins are still available at the Gift Shop and in the Parish Office. The donation of $10 is appreciated and remember the donation will go to the Red Cloud Indian School in South Dakota. TIME FOR EASTER FLOWER TRIBUTE Once again it is time to honor your living and deceased family and friends for Easter. You may use the form inserted in this week s bulletin or the envelope in your church packet. PLEASE print all names clearly. We are beginning this tribute early this time so all names will be able to appear in the Easter bulletin and not published at a later date. We suggest $5 per name, but all donations are appreciated. The deadline date is March 12th. Because Liturgical Press closes for the holiday, this deadline is very important. We appreciate your clarity and your timeliness. Thank you.
