Page 2 PARISH NEWS JPII GIFT AND BOOK SHOP NEWS During the season of Thanksgiving we would like to thank all volunteers and parishioners who have supported the shop this year. Your time and the sale proceeds have helped to support our parish, the Red Cloud School and other customers. We ve found that having religious items and books available is also a way of welcoming newcomers, educating people in their faith, providing support in times of stress, and offering intercessory prayers for those on our prayer list. God bless you for your generosity! Now that the official countdown to Christmas has begun, stop in the shop to browse our collection of Christmas cards, nativity scenes and gifts. Small religious tokens, cards or bookmarks make great stocking stuffers and/or reminders of our faith and the reason for the season. If you are looking for a special item, we will do our best to locate and order it for you. However, remember to request the item soon, as supplies run out and shipping time is limited. ST. KATERI SENIORS CLUB Are you aware that the City of Dearborn Pleasant Hours Senior Club meets at St. Kateri Parish every Thursday from 11 AM 3 PM? All parishioners 50+ are invited to attend. Join us for lunch, friendship, cards, bingo and other social activities. For more information call 943-2412. HONORING YOUR LOVED ONES AT CHRISTMAS You will find the 2018 Flower insert in this weeks bulletin. You may use your envelope found in the December packet or today s form. the bulletin The suggested price is $10 per name or family name. We encourage you to list the family name rather than each individual family member. It will save you money and one plant can represent the entire family, rather than pay $10 for each person s name. Of course, you may list each name for each plant if you so desire. Our goal is to please you. We also ask you to print clearly so we do not have to call you for clarification. Remember our deadline is December 2nd. NEW LECTORS/READERS WORKBOOKS AVAILABLE NOW The new workbooks for Lectors and Readers have arrived. They are in the back room of the church (the old dressing room) for pick up. They begin with the December 2, 2018 Mass so be sure to pick them up in a timely fashion. Thank you, Dn. FAITH FORMATION By Grace Lakatos Next place on the Tour of Grace s Favorite Saints is actually a tie. Attending St. Barbara School, I always looked forward to the feasts of St. Patrick and St. Joseph every March. First, my heritage is Irish and Polish, but more importantly, the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth allowed us to wear green and red knee-high socks on those days respectively. That was a big change from our daily uniformed routine of navy blue. I loved hearing the legend of St. Patrick and to me, St. Joseph was what I imagined my own father would have been like. So I guess you could say that these two great men are saints of my heart, even all these years later when my socks are now black support socks! Ha! Ha! Do you have a favorite saint? I hope so and I hope you keep them close to you in everything you do. Holiday Mail for Heroes Drive continues in Resurrection Hall until December 16th. We re doing well, but I know we can do even better. Think about the one card that you received that made a difference that made your day, that made you smile from ear to ear. Please stop by and sign a card or two for our military. The cards are free to you and it takes only a moment to spread some cheer. Our parish Giving Trees were set up last weekend in Resurrection Hall, the church Sanctuary and at the church doors near the gift shop. The requested donations to Nativity of Our Lord Parish, St. Patrick s Senior Center and Vista Maria as well as to our Food Collection are listed on the tags hanging from the trees. Please do not wrap any of the gifts. Our recipients have asked for the opportunity to allow their clients to select those items that they need most. All gifts can be placed under the trees. Our delivery date for the gifts is December 9th. Please be prompt in returning your gifts. Please watch the bulletin and listen to the Mass announcements for more information. Christ the King "Hail the King of the Jews." The kingship of Christ has always been different than the world expected. Many of Jesus' disciples hoped for an earthly Messiah who would overthrow the Romans. But, as Jesus says in today's Gospel, his kingdom is "not of this world." And yet it is a very real kingdom. Jesus is a very real Lord. And we are called to invite Jesus to be king of our lives. In the early 20th century, disillusionment with authority of all kinds was growing. Revolutions, atheistic thinkers, and World War I contributed to a rejection of faith. In 1925, Pope Pius XI called the Church and the world back to a sense of hope in Christ. He instituted the solemnity of Christ the King on the last Sunday before Advent. How is Jesus king of your life today? Anthony P. Alfano- U. S. Marines Mark E. Baran- U. S. Air Force Louis J.
