ARCHDIOCESE OF DETROIT www.aod.org BOOK & GIFT SHOP Open weekends before & after Masses 32ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME FROM THE PASTOR S DESK By Fr. Terry Kerner This weekend we honor our Veterans with our appreciation for their service to our country. In doing so we recognize the self-discipline and commitment these men and women made to their branch of the Armed Forces and more importantly to protecting our freedom. It is too easy to take for granted the gift of our rights and our ability to enjoy them. Let us not take our Veterans for granted. THANK YOU to all our Veterans! And while we remember our Vets let s not overlook the women and men currently serving in our Armed Forces. As we have done over the years, St. Kateri will provide Christmas cards to you to offer a greeting and note of gratitude to them. Look for the cards beginning this weekend in the gathering space. Also this weekend at all the masses, Mr. Matt Kulczyk from the St. Sebastian Food Pantry has requested thirty seconds of our time to thank all of you for the consistent and generous contributions to the Pantry. He is not making an appeal, but rather in this season of gratitude, he wants to offer his thanks for you and your concern for the needy. The Giving Tree will also become available next weekend prior to those wild and crazy post Thanksgiving sales. Again this year we will be helping three different local and deserving charities. Look for details in next week s bulletin. In the next day or two you will be receiving a letter from me inviting you to enter into the spirit of Advent and the gift of the Eucharist the daily presence of Christ in our midst. Please take the invitation to attend this parish mission seriously and embrace the opportunity to grow in faith. You will be hearing more in the weeks ahead. As Catholics in the Archdiocese together begin to unleash the Gospel message let us not take for granted the opportunities in the days ahead to be part of our parish s ongoing efforts to do so. Let us be proud of being Catholic! Have a good week and remember this Tuesday, November 13th is the last day to sign up for reservations for the Harvest Dinner. Give the office a jingle. The turkey is coming! The turkey is coming! Don t forget to stop by the office or call the office to purchase your Harvest Dinner ticket. Remember the cost is $22 in advance and $25 at the door.

Page 2 PARISH NEWS NOVEMBER HARVEST DINNER AT ST. KATERI Incase you missed the page one comment on our Thanksgiving Feast know there are still some tickets available. $22 in advance and $25 at the door. Come and enjoy the food and your fellow parishioners. The date and the time? After the 4 PM Mass on November 17th. JPII GIFT AND BOOK SHOP NEWS During the season of Thanksgiving we would like to thank all volunteers and parishioners who have supported the shop this year. Your time and the sale proceeds have helped to support our parish, the Red Cloud School and other customers. We ve found that having religious items and books available is also a way of welcoming newcomers, educating people in their faith, providing support in times of stress, and offering intercessory prayers for those on our prayer list. God bless you for your generosity! Now that the official countdown to Christmas has begun, stop in the shop to browse our collection of Christmas cards, nativity scenes and gifts. Small religious tokens, cards or bookmarks make great stocking stuffers and/or reminders of our faith and the reason for the season. If you are looking for a special item, we will do our best to locate and order it for you. However, remember to request the item soon, as supplies run out and shipping time is limited. ST. KATERI SENIORS CLUB Are you aware that the City of Dearborn Pleasant Hours Senior Club meets at St. Kateri Parish every Thursday from 11 AM 3 PM? All parishioners 50+ are invited to attend. Join us for lunch, friendship, cards, bingo and other social activities. For more information call 943-2412. GUIDE BOOK FOR 2019 It is time to begin working on our 2019 Guide Book. We ask that if you DO NOT want your information listed that you call the Parish Office so we can comply with your wishes. We would also appreciate any updates such as new or different phone numbers, emails, addresses and such. We certainly want our book to be filled with accurate information. We appreciate your information and kindness. Remember to call 313-336-3227 with any changes. HONORING YOUR LOVED ONES AT CHRISTMAS You will find the 2018 Flower insert in this weeks bulletin. You may use your envelope found in the December packet or today s form. The suggested price is $10 per name or family name. We encourage you to list the family name rather than each individual family member. It will save you money and one plant can represent the entire family, rather than pay $10 for each person s name. Of course, you may list each name for each plant if you so desire. Our goal is to please you. We also ask you to print clearly so we do not have to call you for clarification. BULLETIN INFORMATION Due to the fact that bulletins have to published by November 12, for Thanksgiving some information may not make it into publishing if submitted after November 12th. The same will be true through December and January as the Christmas bulletin is due December 13th. Articles for December 30 bulletin are due December 19, and the January 6 bulletin deadline is December 28th. We apologize in advance for any disappointments. Volunteers are sitting in Resurrection Hall before and after all weekend Masses to assist you in signing cards for our military. Pens and cards are provided. You can even take a box of cards home to sign at your convenience and return them the next week. Our goal this year is 1250 cards to be delivered to Veterans Hospital on December 17th. I know we can do it. If you are interesting in helping out at the table for one weekend Mass, call the parish office. Our parish Giving Tree will be set up the weekend before Thanksgiving. Once again we will be sharing our donations with Nativity of Our Lord Parish, St. Patrick s Senior Center and Vista Maria. Please watch the bulletin and listen to the Mass announcements for more information. Favorite Saints Continued: Here s my next favorite St. Teresa of Calcutta (Mother Teresa) lived a simple life filled with simple actions and had the ability to teach us so much with very few words. A few of my favorite saying from her are these: Every time you smile at someone, it s a gift to that person. Some enter your life as blessings, others as lessons. God didn t call me to be successful, He called me to be faithful. If you can t feed a hundred people, then feed one. And lastly, If you judge people, you have not time to love them. Such powerful thoughts and words to live by. AROUND TOWN DEARBORN POLICE DEPARTMENT WORKSHOP Join us for a workshop Defending Against Hate Crimes & Domestic Terrorist Acts. The workshop will be presented November 13th at Divine Child High School at 1001 N. Silvery Lane from 6 PM 8:30 PM and again at Henry Ford Centennial Library 16301 Michigan Ave from 6 PM 8:30 PM. Contact denise0611@hotmail.com. THANK YOU Thanks to the generosity of the parishioners at St. Kateri Parish, our annual Halloween celebration was a huge success again this year! Our neighbors turned out faithfully to celebrate with us, with roughly 2,500 attending again this year! From the very young to the young at heart, all had a great time playing games, high-fiving, praying with each other sharing laughs. I have attached some pictures to give you and the St. Kateri family a glimpse into the beautiful joy they brought to the hearts ( and faces) of so many of our wonderful neighbors. There were too any great moments to share in one email, so I hope these pictures help to capture them just a bit. Again, thank you so much for your generosity in making the day, week or even a year of so many of our neighbors, and for helping their parents and grandparents experience the joy of seeing them so excited! None of this could be possible without you and your kind support. Thank you for sharing your missionary spirit, as Pope Francis so often encourages! Please keep us in prayer as we do you.
