Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 2 Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time October 7, 2018 Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Mark 10:14 HE EMBRACED THEM AND BLESSED THEM Today Jesus stresses how children embody the reign of God. They are trusting and loving and have hearts that are open to love. They are joyful when they are made aware of God s love for them, and are eager to return that love. This is the model Jesus holds out to us if we want to welcome the reign of God. We need to have open, loving hearts. We must drop our defenses, however we came by them, and welcome Christ s love for us with joy. This is impossible for us on our own. Only the grace of God will enable us to do this, but that grace is freely and generously given. We have only to accept it. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 4 UNLESS YOU BECOME LIKE LITTLE CHILDREN, YOU WILL NOT ENTER THE KINGDOM We have to distinguish between being childlike and childish. To be childish implies immaturity, throwing tantrums and being silly. These are things we should grow out of. There are lovely childlike qualities which we should try to hold onto,.... openness, receptive, and a sense of wonder. Every child is blessed with a sense of wonder. Picasso s ambition was to paint like a child. He believed that art should startle us into seeing the world anew like a child does. Happiness is the natural state of little children. They have the capacity to find enjoyment out of simple things. Children put us in touch with the gentler parts of themselves. They revive in us a sense of wonder and it is the sense of wonder above all that keeps us young. The Kingdom of God is a gift and children know how to receive a gift. No one can enter The Kingdom who is not open to receive it as a gift. God Bless, Fr. Mike *********************************************************************************************************** Giggles: A bear walks into a saloon and says, Could I have a.... pint of beer please? At night, take one of these yellow pills with a glass of water. Gosh! says the man. So what exactly is wrong with me? You are not drinking enough water. says the doctor,
