June 2017 P.O. Box 338 Mesilla, NM 88046 Basilica de San Albino Council # 15578 WWW.NMKOFC15578.ORG New Mexico District 13 San Albino Knight As summer quickly approaches and the beginning of the new Fraternal Year is about to begin, I am humbled by the many blessings our good Lord has bestowed upon our council. This past two years has He has brought us many worthy charitable projects. From our Bimonthly Food Drives, Fiesta Dinner Fundraisers, tree trimming/ removal, and Veterans Appreciation events (just to name just a few), it has been a memorable time for me as Grand Knight. It is now time for me to move on to another phase of my works within the council. I greatly appreciate SK Danny Duffin (newly elected Grand Knight) and the new Board of Officers in stepping up to lead the council into the future. With your leadership and the good Lord s guidance, we will continue to do great things in His name and glory in all phases of our programs. As Immediate Past Grand Knight, I will continue to serve the council in whatever is asked of me. I thank each and every one of you for your support and prayers in this transition. Viva Cristo Rey! Knights of Columbus Insurance Corner Protecting Widows A Founding Goal As a member of this council, you know how important spouses can be to the charitable works of the Order. If you re married, your wife is probably involved in a few of the many events that happen each fraternal year. This support adds great value and impact to what a council can achieve. When the Order was founded in 1882, Father Michael J. McGivney and the other brave men were setting out to protect Catholic families, but especially wives and children. Today, we remain committed to this mission by offering insurance products and fraternal benefits designed with that goal in mind. One specific policy rider that you may not know about is called Spousal Waiver of Premium. This rider is unique to the Knights of Columbus philosophy of helping our widows. This rider is available on most permanent and Discoverer plans purchased at standard rates by a member and his wife on the same day. When both spouses apply, the rider provides for waiver of premiums on the spouse s contract in the event of the insured s death. Best of all, for members and spouses ages 18 to 60, this waiver can be added for no charge. The rider stays in effect until the spouse attains age 65 or certain other triggering events occur. Our products are designed with your needs and budget in mind. With a solid portfolio of life insurance, long-term care, disability income and retirement products, the Knights of Columbus can help you meet all of your financial goals. Knights on Bikes World Wide Rally 2017 Mesilla Stop Friday May 26 The Knights on Bikes World Wilde Rally 2017 made a stop in Mesilla on Friday May 26. Approximately 100 Brother Knights gathered at the Basilica Parking lot and spent time in Mesilla which included a tour of the Basilica of San Albino. Brothers Mark Marquez, Howard Schmitt, Jim Yankovic, and Richard Portillo were on hand to assist them on their brief stay. The brothers visiting were from all over the country and included one Padre and a deacon. A good time was had by all. Many thanks to our council members for their assistance and support. Visiting his grandparents... A small boy opened the big family Bible. He was fascinated as he fingered through the old pages. Suddenly, something fell out. He picked it up and found that it was an old leaf that had been pressed flat between the pages. "Grandma, look what I found," he called out."what have you got there, dear?" his grandmother asked." With astonishment in his voice, the boy answered, "I think it's Adam's underwear!"
