Imagine what Peter, James, and John must have thought after seeing such a demonstration of God s power. It is in direct experiences with God, like this one, that we come to see the truth about Jesus. Events like the Transfiguration don t happen every day, you say? On the contrary, they happen every day! The sacraments are direct, purposeful experiences with God that occur every day in churches everywhere. In the Eucharist, we are able to witness the real Jesus in our midst. One could say that appearing to us in the form of bread and wine is even more miraculous than what the three apostles saw that day. What do we think when encountering the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist? In the Eucharist, he IS right in front of us. Thursday is a Solemn Holyday. The outdoor liturgy will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. There is seating available at the St. John Paul II Chapel. (Feel welcome to bring your own chair if you don t want to sit on a picnic bench.) Parking for everyone is permitted down below. At the close of the liturgy fruit will be blessed. (Consider bringing enough to leave some behind for St. Mary Hospitality House.) Mirovanije $$ next weekend will also be forwarded to the Hospitality House (operating out of Holy Spirit Church in Parma).

Last week s Byzzline contained some photo highlights of the July 19 picnic. If you d like to check out some more, go to the gallery on our website (where you can also find pictures from many past events, including the recently completed Vacation Bible School). We have completed the interview process for the position of choir director. Three qualified applicants were met with. A decision should be announced soon. We received our Stewardship rebate check from the Diocese last week in the amount of $6,080.00. Many thanks to everyone who participated in this annual appeal by Bishop John. The icons of Jesus and Mary that are used for the liturgies at the chapel of John Paul II, were badly in need of refurbishing. This was done over the course of many weeks this past winter, as a donation of time/talent by one of our parishioners. At Thursday s liturgy the icon of Jesus will be blessed (since it is a Feast of Our Lord) and on August 14, the Vigil for the Assumption, the Mother of God icon will be blessed. (If you ve been to an outdoor liturgy this year, hopefully you ve noticed the splendid work that was done.) With the return of the monthly calendar in September, the A-OK Club has an interest in starting a new project. On the back of each calendar, parishioner birthdays and anniversaries will be listed. For those interested, sign-up forms are included in today s Byzz Line and extras will be available on the desk in the vestibule. Information should be returned initially by August 23 rd (for September birthday and anniversary inclusions), Utilize the A-OK Club mail slot. (June, July and August celebrations will be listed on the May calendar, unless we continue to publish the monthly calendar without the summer recess.) Submissions need to be made by immediate family members only!

This is the prayer Father recited at the end of his sermon at the picnic liturgy. (There were requests to have it printed.) "My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust you always, though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone." Thomas Merton
