1 TRINITY EPISCOPAL CHURCH VOLUME 4 ISSUE 11 NOVEMBER 2008 November began with a fun party on Saturday November 1 given by Alayna Young, our Music Director, for costumed children and adults. The celebrations continued that weekend with the baptisms of Brenna Jean Dart and Cameron James Dart on Sunday November 2, the Feast of All Saints (transferred from November 1). These children will be raised for Jesus in word and deed by their parents, Taylor and Jason Dart, and godparents, Mark and Rosemary Lance, and Dan and Allison Landry. We also enjoyed meeting their families and friends! You will recall that in October there were the blessings of 11 dogs, two cats, and a fish, who were in the 10:00 am service (from beginning to end) on October 5, and came to the front of the church after the Peace for their blessings. All were well behaved! There was only a little growling and barking during the processional hymn. During the afternoon of October 5, twenty-three people wearing gold colored Trinity Church t-shirts formed the largest visible contingent in the Grand Ledge Crop Walk, which wound through the town on that beautiful sunny afternoon. This event was organized by Emily Rodeck (16) and Elizabeth Rodeck (13) and they should be congratulated for their efforts. Beth Bedaine (of undisclosed age) deserves our thanks for the t-shirts! On Sunday October 19, there were 31 people present for the first reading of the script of the Gospel of John in the dramatic version that Dr. David Smith wrote during our Wednesday evening Bible Study this past summer. Act 1 took 49 minutes. The potluck supper was during intermission, and Act 2 took 38 minutes. Diane Britt did the casting. Marion Stolz organized the potluck. Paul Viles produced the scripts. Cliff Knaggs roasted lamb and ham for us. All of this was done at the very good suggestion of Jill Knaggs. On Saturday October 25, many gathered to work for John Lanese, Junior Warden, on the Fall Cleanup Day. Thanks to all who keep Trinity looking so fine and enjoy being with each other at the same time! Casting and rehearsals have begun for the Christmas Pageant. In November, a small portion of each week s Sunday School time will be given to rehearsals under the direction of Beth Bedaine. She is being supported by Inger Lanese and Taylor Dart, the costumer. In December, all of the Sunday School time will be given to rehearsals. Parents are taking responsibility for the lessons for their own children on those Sundays.

2 PAGE 2 Sunday breakfast will next be held on November 16. Thanks to Tom and Sallee Anderson, Betty Jones, and Paul Viles for a delicious breakfast on October 26! In December, breakfast will be on the 21 st. This week, on Friday, November 7, we will have a sold out, five-course, World Outreach Dinner. This dinner will be an evening of good food, fellowship and fundraising to put a roof on a new church on the other side of the world. Thanks to all of the people who are contributing to this wonderful opportunity. God is blessing us richly at this time. May we also be a blessing in this world as we share our time, talent, and resources with our neighbors here and abroad. The children and parents have learned: God is first; others are second; I am third. Peace to you as we share the journey of faith, Nixon+ Prayer Shawl Ministry The members of the Prayer Shawl ministry will meet at the church on Saturday, November 8 and Saturday, December 13, at 10 am. Church Member Information Dan Rodeck says he has always played the trumpet because my fiends did. His trumpet playing, which has become a tradition of Trinity s Easter program, was started in Negaunee, Michigan. He was born in Grand Rapids, Minnesota but his family moved to the upper peninsula before he started school. Graduation from the Negaunee Public Schools, he attended Northern Michigan University in Houghton, with a major in Music Education. In 1980, he joined the Michigan National Guard and was sent to Ft. Belvior, Virginia for Army Engineer Officer Basic Course. The following year, he married Mary MacDonald, also a Music Ed. Student, and he taught music for a year each, at Powers and at Manistique. In 1988, he went into active service and was stationed at Michigan Technological University at Marquette, where he commissioned R.O.T.C. cadets. His military career took the Rodeck family from Camp Robinson, Arkansas, where Emily was born to Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas and to Arlington, Virginia, where Elizabeth was born. The family moved to Grand Ledge in 1998 and served nine years as Director of Information Management in Lansing, for the Michigan National Guard retiring with the rank of Colonel. Now, he finds time to support his musically talented daughters in their many school activates and is pursuing his love of photography. With both a Masters and B.A. degree, he is again a student with photography classes at Lansing Community College. A former Vestry member and Jr. Warden, he is a

3 VOLUME 4 ISSUE 11 PAGE 3 faithful member of Trinity s choir, keeps our Servant Keeper program and our web site up to date and makes himself available to solve technical problems in the church office. Not given to wasting time, he has taken on a full time project called Michigan Virtual University. Located in Innovation Park at MSU, the group provides online education for grades K through 12 bringing an impressive curriculum of credit courses for Michigan students which would otherwise be impossible for most districts to provide. With a remarkable talent for music and a penchant for service, Dan Rodeck is a much admired and much appreciated member of the Trinity family. Atonement Organ screen/panels with 1912 style display pipes. Our sincere appreciation goes out to many people in the finalization of the new and beautiful organ screen/panels with pipes. Initially, Ben Baldus, our former interim pastor, obtained the decorative panels from Edward Arter, Organist-Choirmaster of St. Paul s Episcopal Church, Flint, with the idea they d fit so well in our church décor. John Bunday, Trinity s accomplished carpenter/craftsman, then refit and refinished the panels. Sandy Kallen, Trinity s seamstress, and John attached the beautiful fabric before installation on Yom Kippur day thus the Atonement organ wall. Brian Fowler of Fowler Organ Co. has finished the 1912 style display pipes yet to be installed by John. Quite the journey for yet another beautiful addition to our church!!!! Thanks to all!!!!!!!!! CONSECRATION SUN- DAY IS COMING Congregations that approach financial stewardship from a biblical perspective do not view the money Christians give to their church as a way to pay its bills. Rather, such congregations see financial contributions as a way to help people grow spiritually in their relationship with God by supporting their church s mission and ministry with a percentage of their incomes. We are continuing with the New Consecration Sunday Stewardship Program as a way to teach the biblical and spiritual principles of generous giving in our stewardship education emphasis over the past several years. New Consecration Sunday is based on the biblical philosophy of the need of the giver to give for his or her own spiritual development, rather than on the need of the church to receive. New Consecration Sunday encourages people toward proportionate and systematic giving in response to the question, What do I do with all that I have, once I say I believe? During our 10:00 a.m. worship on December 7, 2008, we are asking our attendees and members to make their financial commitments to Trinity s ministries in this community and around the world. Every attendee and member who completes an Estimate of Giving Card does so voluntarily by attending worship on Consecration Sunday. The procedure is done in such a way that no one feels personal embarrassment if he or she chooses not to fill out a card. We will do no home solicitations to ask people to complete cards. Following the service, we will enjoy a catered luncheon, after which, the results of our stewardship efforts will be announced. Thanks in advance for your enthusiastic support.

4 PAGE 4 Altar Flowers November 16 is still available for altar flowers, if you would like to fill this date please contact Sally Schlee at Altar flowers are placed on the back altar in honor of a loved one or to celebrate a special day. Halloween Party On Saturday November 1 Alayna Young organized a Halloween party for Trinity. As seen in the pictures a good time was had by all. For those of you at the party, just wanted to let you know that our new church secretary decided Trinity was a little too much work for her and so she went back to her old job, at the workout gym. Lost and Found A set of keys were found in the women s bathroom on Monday, October 15. The key ring have a silver cross on it. Two of the keys on the ring are for Trinity s back door and sacristy.. If these are yours, please contact the church office at Christmas Parade Float A volunteers is needed to help conduct the Youth Choir on the Christmas float this year. Contact Denise Clarity if you can do this. Holiday Tradition Tree This years Holiday tree will be sponsored by the Youth Choir and decorated with donated slippers and winter socks. Halloween Party
