January 2017 Brother Knights, Ladies, and families, Happy New Year! Margie and I hope you and your families have had a wonderful Christmas break.

We have had, I believe, a service filled, charitable and productive first half of the Columbian year.

A handful of our Knights volunteer with the and programs every week. Many of our Brother Knights help out in and around Mary Mother of God Parish.

We have hosted another successful Keep Christ in Christmas awareness program. We ve got a lot more things to accomplish in this second half of the fraternal year.

Our upcoming Valentine s Day Dinner & Dance scheduled for Saturday, February 11 at Le Dome Banquet Hall.

1 January 2017 Brother Knights, Ladies, and families, Happy New Year! Margie and I hope you and your families have had a wonderful Christmas break. January marks the half-way point of our Knights of Columbus fraternal year. We have had, I believe, a service filled, charitable and productive first half of the Columbian year. Here is a quick sampling of the programs and events we have hosted or organized: Our Knights have facilitated the St. Andrew's Breakfast and All Star Reading Program. A handful of our Knights volunteer with the and programs every week. Many of our Brother Knights help out in and around Mary Mother of God Parish. We have committed to supporting Father John by funding the new Fresco behind the altar. Our team of Knights has hosted the Hockey Blast for Elementary school students. We have hosted another successful Keep Christ in Christmas awareness program. We ve got a lot more things to accomplish in this second half of the fraternal year. Highlights of our plans include: Our annual Free Throw Championship for boys and girls in our community aged Our upcoming Valentine s Day Dinner & Dance scheduled for Saturday, February 11 at Le Dome Banquet Hall. Our annual Knights of Columbus Raffle for both Ontario and the Arthritis Society. I hope you will join with me in making the second half of this Columbian year as successful as the first half. We wonder what the future holds, what changes we will find. When the bells ring out at midnight and a new path is there to tread, go forward with hope in your heart and welcome the New Year ahead. I wish for you so many things God's blessings from Heaven above to make this the happiest year, filled with joy and peace and love. January is upon us and we turn our attention towards thoughts of resolutions for the coming year. Let s make our New Year resolution to be there for each other and help fellow human beings in need even if we don t know them personally. So come let s spread some kindness and cheer! I ask each of you to consider allocating some of your time and energy towards the annual, ongoing or special events that we sponsor as Knights. It seems that every year at this time I say to myself I can t believe we are in another new year. It is so true that Tempus Fugit ; we ve all heard that expression before. As the New Year begins after the hectic Christmas season it s time for some to get back to work and others to get back into a normal daily routine of everyday life. As with every New Year an opportunity presents itself as a time to change things up a little or do something a bit different. For some it is resolving to get back into shape and shed a few pounds (me for sure!) others may want to make an effort to spend more time doing the hobbies they enjoy. As Knights there are additional opportunities to change things up for the New Year. For one, we can resolve to attend meetings more regularly. Perhaps this is the year we make it a point to help out at least one event. Alternatively maybe we can come forward and volunteer to lead one particular initiative that the Council needs help on. There is a lot help that is needed within our Council and perhaps this is your year to step forward to lend a hand! No one is asking any individual to do it all but perhaps each Knight in our Council can resolve to do a least one thing. Imagine what we could accomplish with this kind of Knight Power! On another note, the apparel we ordered from our supplier will be available at our next General Meeting. Please come out and pick up your orders! Vivat Jesus! Notice of Motion: Brother Knights we have been asked to support one of our fellow Knights for a special mission trip. This motion is put forth to approve a donation of $500 in support of D Arcy Murphy s mission trip to Ireland. D Arcy Murphy has been selected as one of twenty young adults from across Canada to travel to Ireland with the Catholic Christian Outreach program to participate in a weeklong mission. During this mission, they will gather the faithful students already present on campus at the Nation University of Ireland, Galway and train them to be multiplying missionaries, to be agents of hope, to reach out to their fellow students on campus and to share the saving message of the gospel with anyone who will listen. This project meets all of our criteria for support and it is definitely a worthwhile cause. The Charity Committee has reviewed and approved the criteria and the amount of this donation. The Mary Mother of God Knights of Columbus is holding our major fund raiser February 11 th in the form of a Family & Friends Valentines Dinner and Dance. The evening starts at 6pm.

We have a way you can do it all. The Mary Mother of God Knights of Columbus is holding our major fund raiser February 11 th in the form of a Family & Friends Valentines Dinner and Dance. The evening starts at 6pm. with a cocktail hour and the music of Blistered Fingers (our own Rockin Deacon Jim and Bruno from our Choir). This will be followed by an excellent Prime Rib Dinner served with wine, at your table. After dinner, you can mingle, browse the Silent Auction Table, while listening and dancing to the band Freedom Train. Freedom Train has been playing together since 1989 and Freedom Train will entertain us with their spin on classic rock, R&B, funk and original music. This is a Family & Friends Dance, think of it as your Grade School Valentine s Day where everybody got a Valentine s Day card. Everyone from 19 to 90 can attend, single, married, engaged, related or just looking for a good time, please join us and bring your Family & Friends on February 11 th and help us help others, while having a great time. We are not only looking for you and your family to attend the dance, but hopefully you can contribute something to the Silent Auction Table. Most Knights get involved with our organization to help generate charity dollars as a way of giving back for all the blessings God has given them and to belong to an organization of like minded families. The Patriotic Degree (the 4 th Degree) give thanks to God for our freedom, to men and women in our Country who made it happen, as well as it represents the good Charitable works of all Knights to the public eye! On Sunday 29 th Day of January 2017 an Exemplification will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church, 304 Highway # 8, Stoney Creek, Ontario. The first thing that needs to happen is that we need to provide you enough information about the Patriotic Degree sufficiently so that, you can make a determination if this is Degree is something you wish to advance to! Assuming the answer is YES, we need you to fill out a FORM 4 application, we need to accept your candidacy at our General Meeting being held January 18 th, 2017 at Marian Hall at which time, you will be invited to attend the exemplification to Knighthood and receive the designation of Sir Knight along with your Lady!
