4 P R ESIDENT For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me. Matthew 25:35-36 NRSV As United Methodist Women, we can identify with every word of this scripture because at some point and time, we have done some or all of the above through our mission work. Many of our hands-on projects over the years have clothed many babies, and our Prison Ministries are making a difference in many lives. With our Charter for Racial Justice interactions we have welcomed many strangers. Some of our local unit missions (food pantries and soup kitchens) have fed the hungry. Visits and Gift to Mission cards have lifted the spirits of many who have been sick. How can you not want to be a part of a group of Women who are living this scripture? With so much yet to be done, we need all the help we can get. Are you an active member of a local unit? Do you know anyone who has a talent that can be an asset or someone who wants to make a difference in the lives of others? Invite them to a meeting, share a Response Magazine or our newsletter. Have them as your guest at a District event or invite them to join you at a Conference event. We have room for many who want to feed, care, cloth, visit or just pray and make things happen for women, children and youth EVERYWHERE. Michelene Mathews michelenemathews1@gmail.com Vice President As vice presidents, we directly support the presidents (district, unit and circle), programs and needs of our nurturing partners. It is a privilege to join the Metro District United Methodist Women (UMW) Team. Entering the new year presents an opportune time to reflect on, revise and renew our commitment to our personal faith journey while availing ourselves of the boundless opportunities God provides for us to foster, strengthen and enhance our sisters in their faith journey. Collaborating in intergenerational teams, we can strengthen and fine-tune the existing framework to more effectively address the needs of today s women, youth and children across all cultures and socioeconomic circumstances. Thank you for allowing me to be part of this exciting journey. May (And) the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, (shall) keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. KJV Philippians 4:7 Nancy Ward nward001@carolina.rr.com (704)

Here, we and our new members can find a place to nurture faith, experience community and put FAITH-HOPE-LOVE into action to on behalf of women, children and youth locally, nationally and worldwide. How do we increase membership? Invite women to join your unit. They do not need to be a member of your church or even a United Methodist to be in the United Methodist Women. Be consistent. It can take up to five invitations before one is accepted and a woman comes to see what we are all about. Tell others all about United Methodist Women with enthusiasm and love! This may make someone curious about us.
