The day of joyous celebration of victory, life, hope, faith, assurance and eternity has passed. Already, we ve settled back into normal life. The only reminders are the stray strands of Easter grass that mysteriously appear when we thought we had gotten it all. It is my sincere prayer for each pastor and local church in the district, that the joy of life in Christ, the risen Lord, remains vivid and real. May the sense of joy, victory, hope, and assurance permeate who we are, what we do, say, and live. May it indeed be an Eastertide a season and not merely a day of observance. It is exciting to begin to see the cumulative results of our collective efforts as a district to collect food for the hungry among us during Lent. Thank you for participating and being part of the larger church that makes a difference for Christ! In Christ, David THANK YOU!!!!!! Thank you to each and everyone who has contributed to our District Wide Food Pantry. To date, 22 Churches have collected 12,023 pounds of food and it has been distributed to 18 different pantries and shelters. If you have not sent in your results please do so we can get a full accounting of what we can do as a District.

3 Dominican Mission Trip March 29-April 4, 2014 We set out on our mission trip with three UMC churches, New Covenant, Old Camp and Midway UMC all from the North Georgia Rome Carrollton District, on a cold March morning. We had a plan but were waiting to see what God had in store. Some of us had been there before and were excited to see Pastor Pedro and also the newly completed orphanage. When we arrived we found out that we were to build a new block building to house a new water filtration system that will supply the church, orphanage and school with clean water. In 85 degree weather we set to work. We also went down to teach the local people both Dominicans and Haitians how to install free solar lights for their little homes in the Bateys (Little villages in the sugarcane fields where the workers live in poverty.) Their homes are dark during the day, many without electric, and this adds to depression. The first home we went to in Batey 7 was very dark in the middle of the day. We cut a hole in the tin roof and installed the coke bottle light which is a 2 liter bottle filled with water and inserted into the roof with two thirds sticking through. Instantly the sun refracted through the water and the bottle became a 55 watt light. The room was lit up and the lady that lived there was so excited. Her life was better as she now did not have to live in darkness. Neighbors came to see what was going on and all wanted one in their home. We went to another Batey and installed a few more all with the same results. We taught to local people how to install them and left them the tin snips to help. The cost of the project is very little as they have empty bottles laying around and now have the snips to cut with. They are now planning to install them for their neighbors and one house that we installed one was the pastor of the church in the Batey.

4 ROCA District UMW Ubuntu Service Day Project The Rome-Carrollton District United Methodist Women will be having their Ubuntu Service Day Project (what used to be called Work Day Project) on June 28th at Anna Kresge United Methodist Church. This year it will be a Stop Hunger Event. We will be packing 10,000 meals at a cost of $2, We are accepting donations. We have raised over $1,300 so far. Our start time on Saturday, the 28th will be 10:00 am. For more information, please contact your local church UMW President. SEJ Lay Servant Ministries 2014 Conference The Southeastern Jurisdiction of the Association of Conference Directors of Lay Servant Ministries will meet in Decatur, GA to conduct business and participate in classes that will lead to certification as Lay servants. The event take place Thursday-Saturday, July 17-19, Hotel accommodations will be at Hampton Inn Atlanta-Northlake ( ) You will need to contact the hotel directly. (Request SJA Rate).
