4 Tour History April 2014 MEN S CHORUS Brigham Young University Men s Chorus traveled and performed in St.George for Dixie State University Men s Chorus traveled and performed in Idaho. Contact: Management (801) perform@byu.edu Men s Chorus has recently toured several parts of Utah. Most of the locations for these performances were in local venues The choir performed at the Winter Choirfest in Salt Lake City at the LDS Church Conference Center. They later performed concerts in St. George, Utah; Rexburg, Idaho; and Idaho Falls, Idaho The 240 vocalists had the opportunity to perform two concerts in the Celebrity Concert Series in St. George, Utah. The Men s Chorus also performed on campus and at different locations in the Provo area Now under the direction of Rosalind Hall. Took mini-tour to Farmington and Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they did three daytime assemblies and two evening performances. Performed in two spring benefit concerts as part of their new program entitled Outreach 2000 : Habitat for Humanity at Timpview High School in Provo, and Humanitarian Aid Relief Team (HART) at Kingsbury Hall in Salt Lake City, Utah Performed for BYU alumni at Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah, and for BYU President Merrill J. Bateman in Provo, Utah. Took mini-tour to Idaho, where they did concerts at Hillcrest High School in Ammon, Idaho, as well as at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. Final performance under the direction of Dr. Mack Wilberg was held in his hometown of Castle Dale, Utah, at Emery High School Performed at Cox Theater in St. George, Utah, as part of the Dixie College Celebrity Concert Series. Also did concerts for Franklin Covey employees at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City, Utah, for SCERA Corp. at Mountain View High School in Orem, Utah, and for Deseret Book employees at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City, Utah. Took mini-tour to Arizona, where they performed at the Chandler Center for the Arts in Mesa, and at Sahuaro High School in Tucson. 6 Fact Sheet April 2014 MEN S CHORUS Brigham Young University Contact: Management (801) perform@byu.edu Men s Chorus is the largest and one of the most popular collegiate male choirs in the United States. One hundred-ninety members deliver a powerful and fun performance with polished harmonies and full range of male voices. The all-male choir features a strong and dynamic repertoire, performing pieces from all musical genres including classical pieces, hymns, spirituals, popular songs, and folk songs. Whether it is a medieval chant or a fully choreographed production number, this group is guaranteed to leave a strong impression and a standing crowd. Men s Chorus tours regularly throughout the region, most recently performing for audiences in Las Vegas. In 2014, the group will travel to St. George, Utah. In the spring of 2006, the ensemble traveled to Rexburg, Idaho, and performed for sell-out crowds at BYU-Idaho. Five years later, in 2011, the group returned again to Idaho to perform. Men s Chorus took a mini-tour for the group in the spring of The men spent two days performing in the Celebrity Concert Series in St. George, Utah. In February 2000, the Men s Chorus traveled to New Mexico for three days, performing at such venues as the San Juan College Theater in Farmington, and the Kiva Auditorium in Albuquerque. They also held three daytime school assemblies during their stay. Men s Chorus toured for the first time in 1996, performing in Southern California. In March of 1998 they brought their program to the Phoenix and Tucson areas in Arizona. Rosalind Hall, the conductor of Men s Chorus, works hard with the members of the choir to achieve musical unity and flawless performance. Men s Chorus rehearses daily and performs many times throughout the school year. As part of their performance, multi-talented members also perform as instrumentalists and dancers, enhancing audience appeal. Conducting this critically-acclaimed choir is Rosalind Hall, a graduate from the Royal Academy of Music with a host of accolades to her name. Men s Chorus is known for concerts spanning all genres with pieces featuring Gregorian chant, classical, hymns, spirituals, traditional arrangements, and contemporary music. The BYU Men s Chorus will bring its dynamic performance tou (place) U (date) U U U. The Men s Chorus earned a place as one of BYU s most popular choirs because of their rich sound, eclectic performances, and powerful style. As their reputation grows, so does the demand for performances throughout the West where they repeatedly sell-out to new and loyal fans. The choir has performed and in California, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, and throughout Utah. The group has been featured in popular venues including the American Choral Directors Association, the Celebrity Concert Series, and other prestigious events. For the past several years, Men s Chorus has traveled around the west, mostly performing in local venues in Utah and in Idaho. The choir released its first free album in the spring of 2013, Set Apart which featured well-known missionary hymns. The group s charitable spirit had carried over from the previous year, during which the Men s Chorus produced a free concert in order to benefit the victims of Hurricane Sandy. In 2009, Deseret Book re-released the popular Men s Chorus albums Awake My Soul and Shout with Glory, two of Men s chorus eight album releases. In the fall of 2005, Men s Chorus released their third volume of anthems, folk songs, and hymns, entitled Praise Him. 10 News Release February 2014 Artistic Director FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA Brigham Young University Contact: Management (801) Professor Kory Katseanes is the Director of the School of Music and the Director of Orchestras at Brigham Young University. As Director of Orchestras at BYU, he oversees the orchestral program that accommodates nearly 450 students enrolled in the five university orchestras, and directs the graduate orchestral conducting program. He conducts the BYU Philharmonic and the BYU Chamber Orchestra in their concerts on campus and throughout Utah, and on their international tours. Professor Katseanes, a Blackfoot, Idaho native, moved to Salt Lake City in 1974 to continue his education. He joined the Utah Symphony in 1975 as a violinist, and served as Assistant Conductor of the Symphony from 1987 to As Assistant Conductor of the Utah Symphony, he appeared regularly during the season on the Entertainment, Youth, and Family Series, and was often featured at Deer Valley, Snowbird, and Abravanel Hall on the Summer Pop concert series. Other performances included special concerts locally and on tour throughout Utah and surrounding western states. In addition, he played a significant role in educational programs of the Utah Symphony, programming and conducting major portions of the concerts the orchestra performed in Utah's schools over the years. He has conducted performances with renowned dance companies, such as Rudolph Nureyev and Friends, Repertory Dance Theater, and the Twin Cities Ballet. For several years, Professor Katseanes was the founder and Music Director of The Utah Virtuosi, a professional chamber orchestra in Salt Lake City. His many acclaimed performances around Utah include with guest artists Joann Ottley, Reid Nibley, Andres Cardenes, and the Jenson-Woodbury Duo. As a guest conductor, he has performed choral and orchestral concerts with community and student orchestras in Utah, Illinois, and Florida. Katseanes received a master s and a bachelor s degree from the University of Utah, and an associate s degree from Ricks College. He completed his conducting studies with renowned conductor Josef Rosenstock. As a violinist, his teachers included Lamar Barrus, Oscar Chausow, Kathryn Katseanes, Zvi Zeitlin, and Elaine Richey. He has also been on the faculties of Illinois Wesleyan University, Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho), and the Violin Making School of America. The Philharmonic Orchestra, directed by Katseanes, originates in the School of Music in the College of Fine Arts and Communications at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. I mean, it was just really magnificent!... A great appeal of the Men s Chorus is the great variety of things that they do....
