Stearmer DAGGETT COUNTY NEWSLETTER V O L U M E 1 2, I S S U E Academic All-State Volleyball and Baseball Teams Announced For The 2009 School Year D E C E M B E R Jessica Gosar from Manila, Utah was selected to the UHSAA 1A Academic All-State Volleyball Team for the 2009 school year. Along with nine other girls from across the state, she was honored and presented an award just prior to the 1A Championship Volleyball game held at UVU in Orem, Utah on October 31st. The group held a cumulative (from freshman year to senior year) GPA of 3.98, and were regular varsity starters. This award is symbolic of the sacrifices that the students, their families, coaches and teammates have all made. It is a clear communication to their community and the state that academics and athletics are wonderful curriculum partners. Jessica is the daughter of Greg and Louise Gosar and is Senior at Manila High School. She is active in sports, as well as many other school and non-school activities. She also serves as the current Student-Body President Justin Olsen from Manila, Utah was selected to the UHSAA 1A Academic All-State Baseball Team. Olsen was one of seven 1A players to be selected for this honor. All Academic All-State nominees must be a senior, a regular starter or performer on the varsity squad, and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.75 beginning with their freshman year. Final selections are based on candidates' non-weighted cumulative GPA and SAT/ACT scores. Justin is the son of James and Derlene Olsen of Manila, Utah. We greatly appreciate the large number of donations received during November. The Boy Scout Troop in Dutch John collected 599 pounds of food and supplies from the residents of Dutch John and the McKinnon LDS Ward donated another 149 pounds of food supplies; plus, we received other food supplies from Larry Woosley and Colette Martineau. We also received 25 lbs. of toiletries from Buddy Rogers. We are very grateful to everyone that helped give local families a good Thanksgiving. What a great country and community we live in! We are open: If you have an emergency & need help, Tuesdays: 9-1 p.m. please call the Food Pantry at Wednesdays: 9-1 p.m. or contact Karlene at home at or Thursdays: 9-3 p.m. (435) (cell). If the patient needs a mammogram, we will make the appointment in Roosevelt and that will be free of charge. For an appointment, call PUBLIC HEARING The Daggett County Commissioners will meet in a Public Hearing on December 15, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. They will discuss the 2009 budget opening, 2010 budget adoption, and adoption of an ordinance affixing the salaries of the elected officials and statutory officers of Daggett County for The hearing will be held in the Daggett County Courthouse located at 95 North 100 West, Manila, Utah, The public is welcome to attend and will have the opportunity to be heard. The tentative budget is available for inspection at the Daggett County Auditor s Office during regularly scheduled office hours at 95 North 100 West, Manila, Utah,
4 Dedication of the Jesse Ewing Section of Brown s Park Road Saturday, December 5 th at 10:00 a.m. the Commissioners will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony and dedicate the Jesse Ewing Canyon section of Brown s Park Road at 10:00 am. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend and then go to the Winter Festival at the John Jarvie Historic Ranch.
