Although targeted at low-income families, you must be able to make monthly payments on an affordable mortgage. In many cases these payments are less expensive than rent.

1 Volume 5, Issue 2 February 2017 HABITAT FOR HUMANITY Who Needs a House? Habitat for Humanity of North Augusta (HFHNA) is looking for a family needing a decent and affordable place to call home. We will start building their next house this month. If you would like a more stable and secure environment for raising your children, consider applying for a Habitat home. Although targeted at low-income families, you must be able to make monthly payments on an affordable mortgage. In many cases these payments are less expensive than rent. In addition to paying the mortgage, you will be required to help build your house. Most of the work occurs on Saturday or Monday morning, but there are other opportunities to earn the required sweat equity hours. The application process is easy. Download a form from the website, hfhna.org, fill it out and mail it to the address listed on the website. If the application is complete, you will be asked to make an appointment at Security Federal Bank for a review of your financial situation and to help HFHNA determine your suitability for a mortgage. They will also offer counseling to better control your finances. If you are living in less than desirable housing or know of someone who is, please leave a message at HFHNA s office at or download an application and apply. The Cotton Patch Gospel authored by Clarence Jordan, recasts the stories of Jesus into the language and culture of the mid-twentieth-century South. Born out of the civil rights struggle, these translations of much of The Gospels of Mathew and John bring the far-away places of Scripture closer to home. Clarence Jorden died suddenly in Koinonia Farm, Habitat for Humanity, and The Cotton Patch Gospels continue his work and ideas. The Foundations of Habitat for Humanity Clarence Jordon Submitted by Mike Deger Habitat for Humanity has a rich history. We hope to impart some of this history through a series of articles this year. This first article is about the spiritual father of Habitat, Clarence Jordon. He was a farmer and Greek New Testament scholar. Jordon and his wife Florence founded Koinonia Farm, an interracial farming community near Americus, Georgia in Koinonia is a Greek word for fellowship. They developed a community patterned after the early church. They desired a nonracial community where blacks and whites would live and work as equals. As the civil rights movement, progressed Koinonia became the target of boycotts and violence, but the community persisted. In the late 1960s Millard and Linda Fuller came to Koinonia. Together Jordon and Fuller developed the idea of partnership housing. Jordon believed We got to think big. The civil rights movement and corporate farming has swept the sharecroppers, tenants, and little farmers off the land and into the ghetto. Partnership housing was launched by starting one house for one needy family. Jordon believed the ideas founded at Koinonia needed to grow and expand beyond a small community farm. What the poor need is not charity but capital, not case-workers but coworkers. And what the rich need is an honorable and just way of divesting themselves of their overabundance. Habitat for Humanity of North Augusta The Habitat for Humanity of North Augusta Board of Directors, pictured above, is excited about The current Board of Directors is made up of seasoned HFHNA members as well as several new additions who bring years of talent. Their experience in the private sector will assure the Board maintains the highest of standards. Made up of 100% volunteers, the Board members contribute their time, expertise, and labor to make Habitat for Humanity of North Augusta a success. Grading and foundation work has been completed on House No.18. Our 2017 build is anticipated to begin later this month. The success of our build depends on the help of the many volunteers, from all walks of life, who believe in our mission: Seeking to put God s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. 4 Construction Update Construction of House No. 18 was started successfully in January. The lot located at 109 Samuels Rd, North Augusta, SC was cleared by the team from Beverly Clearing and Grading. Foundation preparation work started on January13 and footers were poured the following weekend. The foundation was completed in January however framing will be delayed until warmer weather.
